We are hiring! Atkins is currently seeking a Senior NEPA Planner or Senior NEPA Engineer to join our NEPA Planning Team. Positions are available in the Miami/Fort Lauderdale and Tallahassee/Jacksonville areas.

The ideal candidate for this position will apply their NEPA and Project Development & Environment (PD&E) knowledge to contribute to our various NEPA and PD&E transportation projects.  The candidate will prepare or coordinate the preparation of all levels of NEPA and PD&E documents and production of technical studies and provide quality assurance/quality control of NEPA and PD&E documents prepared by in-house staff or outside consultants. The candidate also will coordinate with resource and environmental permitting agencies. Project Management experience is not required but is preferred.

Additional skills that will be useful involve familiarity with CADD software (both 2d and 3d), Traffic Noise Modeling (TNM), Sea Level Rise analyses, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, and schedule development and management. The candidate should also have strong task management skills, be an effective communicator, and be able to work effectively in both a collaborative and self-directed settings. Experience with the Florida Project Development and Environment processes is preferred.

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Preparation and review of NEPA and planning documents and oversight of documents prepared by other staff.
  • Coordinate in-house technical tasks for compliance with baseline schedules.
  • Evaluate impacts from transportation projects on the built, cultural, and natural environment.
  • Coordinate with design professionals and overall project team to identify fatal flaws, schedule delays, opportunities for schedule acceleration or recovery, and opportunities to avoid or minimize impacts.

What will you contribute?

  • For Senior Planner candidates a bachelor’s degree in planning or a related field, master’s degree is a plus; This level may be achieved by Planners with ten years’ experience since bachelor’s or eight years since Master's. Typical incumbent has 8-10 years’ experience. 8-10 years of experience with a demonstrated working knowledge of NEPA, including coordination of supporting technical studies and schedule management. Planning candidates an AICP Certification desired.
  • For Senior Engineer candidates a bachelor’s degree in engineering, master’s degree is a plus; This level may be achieved by Engineers with ten years’ experience since bachelor’s or eight years since Master's. Typical incumbent has 8-10 years’ experience. Must be a registered Professional Engineering with at least 2 years of post-registration experience with a demonstrated working knowledge of NEPA, including coordination of supporting technical studies and schedule management. Engineering candidates a PE Registration is required.
  • Project management experience is preferred.
  • Aptitude for maintaining a professional attitude and attention to detail while working alone, within a team environment, and/or on multiple projects, simultaneously.
  • Excellent technical writing, computer, and verbal communication skills with clients and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational, task and time management, deductive reasoning, and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of software, familiarity with schedule management software a plus.
  • Ability to visit project sites if necessary.
  • Local candidates are preferred for this position.
  • Eligible candidates must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Similar environmental consultation experience related to transportation projects with FDOT and/or other linear projects (including projects with federal and state funding) preferred.
