Title: Supervisory Assistant Attorney General for General Counsel Services
Unit: Legal Counsel
Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and qualifications
FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:
The Legal Counsel Unit provides legal advice and representation to state agencies, boards and commissions on a daily basis. This representation includes advising agencies concerning the lawful discharge of its duties and powers; representing agencies in administrative proceedings, employment proceedings and some civil and appellate litigation in state and federal courts; and prosecuting holders of professional licenses before Boards that grant said licenses. This position will supervise, and serve as a team leader to, other attorneys within the Unit that provide general counsel services and, in that capacity will, act as a peer reviewer and provide guidance as needed.
Essential Functions:
- Effectively supervise, train and mentor subordinate attorneys
- Organize and oversee structured regularly set meetings with supervised attorneys to review and address pressing legal issues and report same to Legal Counsel’s Sr. Assistant Attorney General and Deputy Attorney General
- Assign attorneys to provide general counsel duties to state agencies, boards, and commissions, as needed, to address unexpected gaps in coverage, in consultation with Legal Counsel’s Sr. Assistant Attorney General and/or Deputy Attorney General
- Represent agencies in administrative proceedings, employment proceedings, and some civil and appellate litigation and/or appeals. Supervisory Assistant Attorneys General will maintain individual client assignments and caseloads in addition to supervisory responsibilities
- Advise agencies concerning the lawful discharge of their duties and powers
- Collaborate with agents, investigators, and/or other attorneys to investigate and administratively prosecute holders of professional licenses
- Conduct hearings of individual proceedings
- Prosecute holders of professional licenses before Boards that grant said licenses
- Review and approve orders and other pleadings in individual proceedings
- Engage in motion practice, appellate writing, and oral advocacy
- Knowledge of the Open Meeting Act, Open Records Act, Administrative Procedures Act, state contracting and procurement, state ethics rules/conflict of interest, and labor and employment
- Display good judgment, be detail-oriented, and organized
- Exhibit excellent verbal and written communication
- Present outreach materials and presentations to various groups and entities
- Effectively research, prepare, analyze and understand complex information and legal issues
- Maintain the confidentiality and integrity of the Attorney General’s Office
- Some in-state travel, including occasional over-night travel
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be, or be eligible to become, licensed attorneys in good standing with the Oklahoma State Bar. Superior research, writing, and communication skills are required. Excellent time management and organizational skills. All applicants must be admitted or eligible for Admission to practice in the United States District Courts for the Western, Eastern, and Northern Districts of Oklahoma.
