About the role

Description

The Assistant Principal will assist the school principal in overall administration of instructional program and campus level operations. The Assistant Principal will support the school in driving academic and SEL outcomes for students as a key member of the school’s leadership team.  Assistant Principals lead instruction, school culture and develop leadership in the school’s emerging leaders.


Reports to: Principal

Network Support: Academics Team 

Supervises: Teachers, Instructional Paraprofessionals, and other school staff assigned by Principal


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Model and support implementation of the school's vision and goals 

  • Supports development of Principal’s school-wide vision and takes an active role in investing and mobilizing teachers to achieve the collective goals of the school; owns the implementation of select school priorities in support of the school-wide vision
  • With guidance from the Principal, leads and plans specific goals for the grades/departments that he/she coaches and ensures alignment with school-wide goals
  • Manages diverse opinions, ideologies, and expertise to achieve school vision and objectives
  • Provides input into the school-based strategic planning and identifies what the school’s strategic plan means for his/her own leadership and people that he/she manages 
  • Supports the principal in engaging, parents, community regularly to ensure they are invested in the school direction and informed of progress; ensures they are appropriately involved in school decision making
  • Supports the monitoring of the STEAM program per the advisement of the Director of STEAM Implementation, the GaDOE STEAM continuum expectations with school leadership team

Instructional Leadership

  • Provides high-quality, helpful instructional coaching with frequent and scheduled teacher caseload observations, actionable and bite-sized feedback, and accountability for adjustment in practice 
  • Develops a strong understanding of academic standards for all subjects/grades that they lead
  • Studies curriculum and assessment content and further develops understanding of how assessments map to content mastery, and what is required of students and teachers to accomplish mastery on the assessments 
  • Supports and enforces the Network guidelines for using assessment for student mastery and growth towards instruction and college readiness. and insists that assessments are used to inform teacher instructions. 
  • Develops own and teachers’ knowledge of best practices in instructional methods and teaches teachers how to match particular strategies to gaps in student mastery  
  • Supports how data aligns to end-of-year goals (what is being assessed and how it maps to standards); break-out data to analyze how different student groups are performing; determine what data is saying about areas of student mastery and growth; and identify specific instructional actions and adjustments to fill students’ knowledge and skill gaps and a timeline to do so 
  • Manages others who lead department/content/grade-level meetings that focus on planning for and norming on instruction and culture, practicing instructional strategies, and progress monitoring the department/content/grade level 
  • Recommends to the Principal what school-wide professional development will be the highest leverage in improving student results; lead engaging, actionable, adult-learning workshops; and hold staff accountable for implementation of the workshop practices 
  • Establishes and creates accountability for school-wide expectations
  • Ensures excellent teaching via co-observations, norming, and other professional development
  • Assists the principal in communicating academic progress to families and support school community training on instructional expectations

Data , Planning and Assessment

  • Leads team in analyzing holistic data, instructional and cultural strategies to make appropriate decisions to improve instruction, increase student achievement, increase socio-emotional wellness, and overall school effectiveness
  • Uses student achievement data to determine school effectiveness and directs school staff to actively analyze data for improving results
  • Lead administration of routine network and state assessments including but not limited to MAP, IReady diagnostic, benchmark testing and Georgia Milestones
  • Develop and implement testing expectations for teachers and staff to adhere to meet state compliance standards
  • Aligns instruction with compliance requirements and managing assessments
  • Trains staff on instructional and culture technology resources and data syst
