INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST

Role Overview: 
The Industrial Hygienist will support the development, implementation, and continued operation of the Knife River Occupational Health and Hygiene program.  This position will be responsible for the coordination and execution of industrial hygiene functions including the collection of samples, audiometric testing, biological monitoring, respiratory protection, and fit testing, maintaining gas testing equipment, physical demand analysis of job functions, investigation of exposures and the implementation of mitigating controls, and maintaining applicable database and records.

Minimum Requirements:
1. 3+ years of Industrial Hygiene experience or entry level with a degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, or similar field
2. Ability to hold and maintain proper licensure and acceptable driving record.
3. Ability to work flexible shifts, including overtime, possible nights and some Saturdays.

Preferred Requirements:
1. Prior experience in the mining, civil, or heavy manufacturing sectors.
2. Knowledge of applicable MSHA and State regulations pertaining to Occupational Health

Duties and/or Responsibilities:
1. Routinely conduct exposure sampling in the field for known and expected analysis such as: respirable and total dust, silica, asbestos, arsenic, noise, diesel particulate matter, and other such potential contaminates.
2. Coordinate with various departments and groups to develop representative sampling plans for similar exposure groups, exposure areas, and specific equipment or processes.
3. Collect, maintain, and analyze data to develop statistical determination and correlation based on sampling results.
4. Fully investigate action level or over exposures to determine root causes and work with operating departments to determine mitigations following the hierarchy of controls.
5. Observe employees performing tasks and develop physical demands assessments for job description and duties.
6. Conduct audiometric testing and maintain the employee audiometric database and testing equipment.
7. Maintain and calibrate gas testing equipment and ensure consumable parts are adequately stocked.
8. Review, monitor, and develop policies, standards, and procedures to support the Knife River Occupational Health and Safety program.
9. Manage and maintain all applicable records for the company Occupational Health program.
10. Ensure MSHA, OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance by keeping updated with industry and regulatory changes. .
11. Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
