Construction Inspector - Water Resources

BKF is hiring a Construction Inspector to execute onsite construction inspections to ensure the project is being constructed in compliance with the contract requirements and applicable permits.
Responsibilities:
General
- Inspect a variety of construction including but not limited to repair of pipelines, water mains, sewers, lift stations, and treatment plants.
- Advises Resident Engineer or Agency Project Manager and informs contractors of any variances from approved plans and specifications
- Takes samples of materials, prepares test specimens, and assist in conducting field tests, or refers samples for laboratory analysis
- Checks the location of public utilities to avoid interference with construction work
- Assists PM in review of project submittals, RFI’s, and CCO’s
- Verifies acceptability of material incorporated into the project by Certificates of Compliance, shop drawings, and test reports
- Maintains material and inspection records
- Maintains a daily diary, photo log, contract item quantities
- Other duties as assigned
Water and Wastewater infrastructure
- Verify the installation and proper sealing of water pipelines, ensuring no leaks or contamination.
- Oversee the construction and retrofitting of stormwater, water, and wastewater treatment facilities.
- Ensure proper grading, drainage, and erosion control measures are in place to manage water flow and prevent pollution.
- Check for compliance with health and safety standards, especially related to water quality, drinking water safety, and wastewater discharge regulations.
- Monitor backflow prevention, cross-connection controls, and ensure plumbing systems meet sanitary standards.
- Test water pressure and flow in pipelines, and inspect valves, pumps, and treatment plant equipment.
- Oversee sewer line cleaning, pipe relining, and trenchless repair methods.
- Ensure that environmental impacts, such as erosion, sedimentation, and stormwater runoff, are mitigated.
Environmental and Health Compliance
- Inspect for compliance with the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, and other environmental regulations.
- Ensure proper handling, disposal, and treatment of wastewater to avoid pollution.
- Check stormwater systems to ensure they meet environmental protection requirements, including those related to wetlands and floodplains.
Requirements
Minimum Education, Licensure, or Certification Required
- College degree or min. 5 years’ work experience in related field
- Valid California Class C driver's license and an acceptable driver’s record are required
Desired Certifications
- Certified Public Infrastructure Inspector (CPII)
- ICC Reinforced Concrete Inspection Certification
- ICC Masonry Inspection Certification
- ICC Welding Inspection Certification
- ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade 1 Certification
- Qualified SWPPP Certification
- Fall protection Safety Training
- First Aid & CPR
Minimum Experience Required
- 2 + years of experience in the supervision or inspection of engineering construction work including reading and interpreting complex construction plans and specifications, OR
- 5 years’ work experience in related trade/field
Desired Construction management Experience
We are seeking candidates with experience in some of the following areas. While not every item is required, experience in a combination of these areas will be highly valued:
- Large diameter sewer and water pipeline, including trenchless installations
- Water and wastewater treatment plants, including membrane filtration technology
- Sewer lift stations
- Booster pump stations
- Groundwater wells
- Stormwater diversion, capture, and treatment
- Flood control infrastructure
- SCADA installation, integration, and startup commissioning
Other Required Skills
- Knowledgeable with construction methods and procedures, Caltrans and Greenbook standard plans and specifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Able to work well with other people, contractors, agency personnel, the public
- Interacts well with other staff, public, government agencies
- Able to effectively operate a computer and basic computer programs such as Word & Excel
Benefits
- The typical base salary range for this position is $120,640.00 - $156,000.00 annually, depending upon skills, experience, education, and geographical location, hourly wage
