Job Summary of the Sr. Cost Accountant
The Senior Cost Accountant must have strong communication, interpersonal, analytical, and technical skills with at least four years’ experience in cost accounting. Must have good working knowledge of product costing, inventory management, variance analysis, and financial modeling. Must be able to work well in a complex, fast paced environment. Strong integrity and respects others.
Requirements of the Sr. Cost Accountant
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
• Master’s Degree in Business Administration, highly valued
• Active CPA a plus
• At least 4 years cost accounting experience required; in a publicly traded company a plus
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software and Excel expertise a must
• Experience with accounting software, Great Plains is a plus
• Good presentation and analytical skills
• Self-starting and goal-oriented striving to realize achievements
Responsibilities of the Sr. Cost Accountant
The specific duties of the Sr. Cost Accountant include but are not limited to:
• Responsible for product costing for all new and existing products
• Analyzes cost variances, determines root causes, and prepares recommendations for improvement
• Analyze product and gross margin monthly actual results
• Establish material, labor and overhead cost for quarterly bills of material analysis
• Assist in completing annual gross margin budget
• Analyze inventory trends and develop reports which highlight and communicate significant changes
• Provide financial support to ensure accurate inventory records
• Assist with the annual physical inventory and cycle count programs
• Responsible in the capital budgeting and actuals reporting to operations
• Provide support on month-end closing and projects as assigned
• Reconcile inventory general ledger account balances on a timely and accurate basis
• Prepares month analyses and reports for Operations management as needed
• Looks for areas of improvement within our processes, makes recommendations and implements process improvements
• Comply with all company policies, standard operating procedures, and Sarbanes Oxley Section 404 internal controls
• Works with both internal and external audit teams
• Ensures compliance with SOX – interest
• Performs job duties in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
