Collins Aerospace is seeking a summer intern for 2024 at our Manufacturing Engineering department within our Fire Protection Systems manufacturing site located Wilson, NC. This student will work under the supervisor of one of our senior engineers in the development and implementation of various machines and processes across our manufacturing floor in support of the improvement of various operational metrics. The team culture is extremely collaborative and engaged; we value our customer, our products and our people (that means you). This position is full-time, Monday-Friday, and will run May/June-August; it is only eligible for current students with a graduation date past August 2024.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Participates in the design and arrangement of machines within plant facilities that increase output and reduce overall costs.

  • Identify and implement shop floor process improvements that increase output and reduce overall costs

  • Assist in creating and maintaining shop floor work instructions (including specifications, engineering changes, process control, and tooling definition/requirements)

  • Participate in lean manufacturing initiatives that support continuous process improvement

  • Participate in special projects that could involve cost reduction, special processes, machining processes and supplier support activities

  • May propose the sequence of operations and installations and supports in specifying procedures for fabrication of tools and equipment and other processes which may include disassembly/assembly and repairs, to ensure efficiency and optimize performance.

  • Participates in the development of manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control to ensure compliance and effective production.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and student must be pursuing a Bachelor's or advanced degree in an applicable discipline.

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong analytical, creative thinking and project management skills.

  • Strong time management skills, ability to multi-task and adaptable to changing priorities.

  • Self-starter, who can prioritize to meet various deadlines.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with good interpersonal skills.
