Summary – This is a contingent Opportunity and would begin work upon the contract award.
The Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) Program is designed to provide dedicated and comprehensive support to Survivors of deceased Soldiers. The position ensures the ARNG fulfills its covenant with Survivors through sustainment of a comprehensive multiagency program that improves Soldier and Family preparedness in the event of a catastrophic loss, maximizes cooperative efforts within organizations and agencies, ensures Survivors receive all the benefits to which they are entitled, and encourages Survivors to remain an integral part of the ARNG Family for as long as they desire. The SOS Program provides financial counseling referral and long-term support to surviving family members, ensuring the surviving families’ concerns are addressed expeditiously in a holistic approach.
Zeiders Enterprises, Inc. is seeking qualified, trained, and capable individuals to serve as Survivor Outreach Services (SOS) Coordinators within the ARMY throughout the state. The ARNG SOS Support Coordinator provides the states and territories a subject matter expert supporting programs and services to Survivors of fallen Soldiers. The SOS Coordinator will develop, administer, and coordinate SOS programs and services within the state. SOS Coordinator will travel to assist Families throughout the assigned area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Be available via telephone 24/7/365 to receive requests for assistance from constituents.
- Serve as Subject Matter Expert on Survivor support and services, responsible for all aspects of the SOS Program Provide financial referrals, including but not limited to survivor benefits, budgeting, college savings plans, health care (Tricare and Medicare), long term care insurance, asset allocation, retirement savings, life insurance, and other related programs and services.
- Act as liaison with civilian and military service providers and assume lead responsibility for developing and coordinating appropriate relationships and partnerships.
- Conduct briefings to communities to increase knowledge of SOS services and support.
- Coordinate briefings, orientations, workshops and networks to enhance local and state delivery with agencies.
- Serve as an advocate for eligible beneficiaries.
- Coordinate with Casualty Assistance Center (CAC) Benefits Coordinator/Specialist and AC/USAR Support Coordinators in service delivery to Survivors.
- Ensure all case records, follow-up/outreach, training, reports and procedures comply with SOS standards.
- Coordinate and conduct support groups, life skill education and supportive counseling for Survivors using various venues.
- Conduct or facilitate non-clinical support and provide information, referral, and respite care services as requested and follow up with Survivors for outstanding issue resolution.
- Inform and brief state leadership and Regional Coordinator on all issues impacting survivors. All issues not resolved will be immediately referred to PM/APM for resolution.
- Keep in contact with survivors and family members by mailing items such as (but not limited to) birthday cards, Christmas cards, anniversary cards, and event invitations, and maintain a shipping expense log.
Required Qualifications
- Associates degree and three (3) or more years of experience in related field.
- Prior military service OR prior experience supporting the MFH-SOS program or other relevant military programs.
- Broad based knowledge, experience, and skills in the areas of survivor assistance services, military personnel, casualty assistance, and Family programs as well as an understanding of the ARNG.
- Possess a thorough knowledge of the military organizational structure, mission objectives, function, procedures, regulations, and policy of the Department of Army.
- Possess working knowledge of military protocol when addressing Officers, Non-Commissioned Officers, Troops and Government personnel.
- Ability to effectively interface and communicate with civilian and military personnel at all levels.
- Proficiency with computers, including proficiency n Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power-Point.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Flexibility to support extended work hours as required.
