POSITION: 31N Grant Funded – General Education Mental Health Professional (Social Work or Counseling)
DESCRIPTION OF THE DISTRICT:
The Brandon School District is a mid-size school district nestled in Northwest Oakland County. The district has approximately 1,000 students in junior kindergarten-5th grade between the two elementary schools, approximately 550 at the middle school level and approximately 850 at the high school. This small, tight knit community has a strong connection to its schools and is passionate about the education of its youth. Brandon High School sends 85-90% of its graduates to post-secondary school each year, it was ranked in the 82nd percentile of all schools in the State on the top-to-bottom rankings and it was awarded as a Silver Medal Winner by the US News.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Brandon School District is seeking a caring and compassionate social worker or counselor to join our elementary team. This individual will be providing social emotional supports and counseling for students identified in need. An ideal candidate will seek to address issues proactively, will build strong connections with staff and students and will have a clear passion for helping others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Social Work or Counseling
Fully licensed by the State of Michigan Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) in either of the following:
Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC through LARA)
Masters in Social Work (LMSW-Clinical through LARA)
Credentialed from Michigan Department of Education in School Social Work or School Counseling is preferred
Experience with counseling elementary school-aged students is preferred
Must be CPI trained or willing to be CPI trained within 30 days of hire and annually update certification.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge about outside resources/support for families
Knowledge and expertise in delivering mental health counselling and intervention
Knowledge about crisis and trauma informed practices
Ability to develop genuine and positive relationships with students
Ability to maximize technology for effective communication with students, staff and parents
Ability to provide regular and reliable attendance, which is an essential job function
Strong communication skills, a calm demeanor and the ability to work with others
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain appropriate logging and billing for 31N
Provide responsive services to meet the needs of students, including individual, group and crisis response counseling
Administer a comprehensive behavioral health assessment, including the use of screening tools as indicated, to determine student needs for specific psychological, health or related services
Develop and maintain Plans of Care with input from students and caregivers as appropriate
Assess the effectiveness of the delivered services toward achieving the student-driven goals and objectives via the Plan of Care review
Provide behavioral health counseling services (non-academic)
Utilize behavior health interventions to enhance psychological, behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and social factors important for the prevention, treatment, or management of behavioral health concerns
Assess needs for additional counseling services, making referrals when appropriate to the Community Mental Health System
Provides crisis intervention
Provides temporary, short term (4-6 weeks) of Tier 1 support
Assist students in developing positive relationships with peers and adults
Assist students who may be experiencing difficult life circumstances
Connect students and families with community resources through referrals
Assist students in developing healthy coping strategies for successful school and life transitions
