About the role

Summary

The Outpatient Technician assists with activities of daily living, provides basic patient care to the patients to include vital signs and enemas, and assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse in charge to whom they are assigned. The OP tech also performs clerical duties to include ordering of specimens in Cerner, organization of the OP chart and making phone calls to offices and other facilities. The Outpatient Technician must have an understanding of the procedures and principles utilized in the clinical laboratory of all age groups and be able to follow policies and procedures involving patient identification, specimen registration, labeling and preparation. They must also have knowledge in performing 12-Lead EKGs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education: Technical or Vocational training.

Required Licenses/Certifications

  • Phlebotomy Certificate ( must have within 30days of hire)or Medical Assistant Certificate (includes phlebo/EKG training) 
  • Current BLS for health care providers

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Demonstrated proficiency in acute care nursing, knowledge and skills. (bilingual- English/Spanish preferred) 
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks effectively and efficiently. 
  • Ability to use computers 
  • Ability to make quick and accurate decisions under stress and emergency situations 
  • Minimum 1 year phlebotomy experience with all age groups preferred 
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work alone

Assists in the assessment of patient needs and health plan. Completes all necessary documentation in the patient’s medical record in accordance with practice’s charting policy. Prepares equipment and assists physicians with medical treatments, exams, and medical procedures. Arranges for specialized consultations and appointments for testing as ordered by the physicians.

Education:

Required: High school diploma or GED with completion of an accredited medical assisting program.

Experience:

Required: 1 year of experience working in a physician office.

Certifications:

Required: Medical Assistant certification. AHA BLS.
