Description

The University of Michigan – Flint School of Nursing seeks a Clinical or Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor of Nursing to teach community health nursing online and face-to-face in the undergraduate nursing programs.  This is a full-time clinical or tenure track position at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor in the School of Nursing. 

Responsibilities of the faculty position include ensuring achievement of required competencies by the learner through planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating instructional activities in the nursing program, in accordance with the philosophy and academic standards of the University of Michigan-Flint.  This position's (clinical or tenure-track) salary and rank are commensurate with credentials, scholarship and experience. Proposed start date is winter 2025.

Primary responsibilities include teaching community and population health nursing face-to-face and/or online in the undergraduate programs.  Student advising, involvement in scholarly and professional activities, and participation in university service is also a requirement.

Other responsibilities include:
Instruct and facilitate meaningful learning of the course competencies in the curriculum and proactively support all facets of the campus and learning environment for an exceptional student experience.  Provide career education through student-centered instruction that will enable graduates to fulfill the evolving needs for patient-centered healthcare delivery.  Maintain scholarship according to the School of Nursing scholarship expectations of clinical or tenure-track faculty. This position also includes additional responsibilities: participating in curriculum and course development, participating on various academic committees and special projects as assigned. Instructional opportunities may vary across undergraduate and graduate programs.

For the Rank of Clinical or Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor: Teaching effectiveness, a program of scholarship, and commitment to service (school, university, profession, community) are expectations of this rank.   Scholarship contribution is dependent upon tenure vs. clinical track.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in nursing or related discipline (DNP, PhD or EdD); if the earned doctorate is not in nursing, master’s degree in nursing with a focus on community health or population health is required.  If the doctorate was earned via a BSN to doctorate, the doctorate must be in nursing (DNP or PhD) with a program of scholarship in community, population, or public health nursing. A master’s in public health with an earned doctorate in nursing will be considered equivalent academic preparation.

  • Experience teaching in a baccalaureate and/or higher degree program.

  • 2-3 years of experience working in community, population and/or public health and/or teaching community, population, or public health.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and students

  • Online teaching experience

  • Commitment to scholarship with a delineated program of scholarship and scholarly productivity

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work effectively in multicultural settings and a demonstrated commitment to diversity

  • Ability to work in an accelerated and online learning format
