Summary: Neogen is seeking a strategic business developer and creative business leader who is the driving force behind market adoption of a Neogen product lines for the protein industry. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Food Safety Sales, this position will work to position Neogen at the forefront of in the protein industry. Individual must be comfortable working at the C-suite level of the large protein corporations driving an economic value proposition to gain market share.The Business Development Director for Protein will be responsible for enabling and ensuring Neogen’s technology and solutions are widely adopted across the industry. A strong professional network in the protein production and processing industry will allow rapid success in initiating conversations and building relationships around Neogen Food Safety Solutions. This individual will spearhead a cross functional team of marketing, legal, government/industry affairs, R&D, and sales to drive significant revenue opportunity in this segment. Experience working in a key account team environment and comfort in developing creative solutions for customers is paramount for success in this role. Credibility in building financial return models and strong economic selling statements will allow individual to be successful in closing long term agreements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Business Development, Market Expansion, Contract Negotiation and Management
- Lead person in engaging in sales discussions with protein production and processing plants regarding Neogen Food Safety Solutions.
- Represent Neogen solutions to the industry and companies and engage with the C-level protein company executives leading to contract negotiations.
- Partners with sales reps and marketing to drive strong value proposition across sales targets to leverage the entire Neogen portfolio.
- Together with marketing, technical and Industry affairs teams to build market segment opportunity pipeline and sales strategy, and industry awareness of Neogen as an innovative partner in this market. Looks for additional opportunities to partner with industry thought leaders to expand the utility of Neogen solutions.
- Works with international subsidiaries to educate them on the industry and possible international expansion of the technology.
- Assists Senior Sales Director in quarterly reporting of sales opportunities, opportunity funnel, and progress to budgets.
- Attends key industry and NGO events as the company’s leading expert in the application of technology for optimal economic return.
- Works with global marketing teams to provide industry feedback and opportunities for product line expansion.
- Build reporting and documentation process to track customer relationships and contracts through PowerBI Analytics maintaining accurate reports to demonstrate success in driving new business development, as well as documenting sales and other CRM activities.
- Work with Corporate Contracts Administrator to ensure confidentiality agreements, license agreements, and other contracts and other legal documents are properly processed, reviewed, and executed.
- Works with industry partners to build strategic business relationships to speed up the adoption of technology and lower barriers to conversion.
- Play a critical role in the development of financial models for use in building return on investment tables, break even points to assist customers in identification of the value drivers of the technology in their operation.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have worked in the US protein industry and be well versed in microbiology and associated regulatory incentive programs. The individual must be able to work independently and have experience in marketing and selling new solutions to traditional industries. Individual would be best located in the Midwest of the United States and have a strong network in the major protein producers and commodity groups.
The ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role.
