Candidates should be versatile, eager and able to work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive financial and technical environment. Our interns will have the flexibility of working 2 days remotely, and 3 days in office per week at one of our state-of-the-art offices in Chicago, Kansas City, and New York City. To be eligible for this internship, applicants must be enrolled in a university or college program and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the internship year. The Cboe Network Security team is hiring for a Network Security Operations intern.

The purpose of this internship is to provide hands-on experience in network security within a dynamic and high-performance environment at Cboe Global Markets. Interns will gain valuable insights into the complexities of securing a global stock exchange, while developing technical skills and knowledge that are essential for a successful career in cybersecurity. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to real-world security initiatives, collaborate with industry experts, and deepen understanding of advanced technologies in a critical financial infrastructure.

Your responsibilities and learning objectives will be:

  • Engage in real-world network security tasks, including log analysis, system upgrades, and firewall rule audits, to develop practical skills in cybersecurity.
  • Collaborate with seasoned professionals to understand and implement best practices in securing high-performance financial networks.
  • Contribute to ongoing security initiatives, gaining hands-on experience in protecting critical financial infrastructure.
  • Learn to navigate complex change management processes and conduct thorough system validations.
  • Develop analytical skills by identifying performance issues and security risks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Enhance problem-solving abilities through active participation in troubleshooting access issues and hardening network devices.

The ideal candidate has:

  • A strong academic background, currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related technical field and should not be scheduled to graduate before December of the year in which the internship takes place. We also welcome candidates from diverse educational backgrounds who demonstrate a passion for network security.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security principles. Familiarity with firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and VPNs is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and approach complex issues methodically.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies in a fast-paced financial technology setting.


You’ll really stand out with:

  • Experience with Python and API programming
  • Experience with Docker and containerization
  • Any technical certification such as Cisco CCNA, Palo Alto PCNSA, CISSP
