Lead High School Safety & Security Specialist
Eden Prairie Schools is seeking a Lead High School Safety & Security Specialist. The Lead High School Safety & Security Specialist provides leadership and supervision for the high school security team while supporting a safe, welcoming, respectful, and inclusive school environment for students, staff, families, and visitors. The Specialist manages daily security operations, including campus supervision, access control, emergency response, and coordination with the District Emergency Coordinator in alignment with district safety protocols. Working closely with the building principal and administrative team, the Specialist supports student behavior expectations and disciplinary procedures while emphasizing a proactive, relationship-based approach to school safety. Through a visible and approachable presence, positive relationships with students, and calm and consistent responses to challenging situations, the Specialist helps prevent and de-escalate conflict, reinforce positive behavior, and strengthen a sense of belonging. The role balances effective security and emergency preparedness with relationship building, prevention, student engagement, and positive school culture and climate.
Position Qualifications
Education/Certification:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred. An associate degree combined with relevant experience may be considered.
Experience:
- Minimum of three years of relevant experience in school safety, security, law enforcement, corrections, emergency management, or a related field preferred.
- Experience working with adolescents or young adults in a school, community, security, or related setting preferred.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience leading, coordinating, or providing direction to a team of adults.
- CPR and First Aid certification preferred; required training will be provided within the first three months of employment if needed.
- Knowledge of, or ability to learn, school district policies, procedures, student discipline practices, parking procedures, emergency response protocols, and student support systems.
- Demonstrated communication, relationship-building, conflict-resolution, and de-escalation skills, including the ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment in challenging situations.
- Ability to effectively use security camera systems, electronic door access systems, emergency communication tools, and other school safety technology.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, school administrators, staff, law enforcement, and emergency responders.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred.
