Associate Instructor - Industrial Maintenance Control

Job Summary

The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Murfreesboro is accepting applications for the full-time evening instructor position of Industrial Maintenance Control program to be located at the Smyrna Campus. This full-time position entails a commitment of at least 37.5 hours per week, in person, providing instruction to high school and adult students during evening hours. The IMC faculty member reports to the Vice President of Instruction and Accreditation.

Job Duties

• Responsible for providing individualized theory and hands-on instruction to adult and high school students to prepare them for employment in the field.
• Provide students with a thorough understanding of the methods of diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial equipment. Safety and knowledge of tools and materials is of critical importance.
• Mechatronics portion incorporates advanced studies and troubleshooting in Electronics, Fluid Power, Motor Control, PLC logic and programming, Robots, and Mechatronics manufacturing.
• Maintain good public relations with business and industry, assist with advisory committee and cooperate with outside agencies.
• Maintain an organized, safe, and stable learning environment that is conducive to all (COE) accreditation requirements.
• Assist in recruitment of new students and placement of graduates.
• Maintain knowledge of industry trends and technological advances in the industry.
• This position may also supervise and follow up on students participating in cooperative education.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience in the IEM/M field, preferably within the last five (5) years.
• Must be available for evening program hours of instruction, Mondays-Thursdays from 1:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-secondary Skilled Trades credential from an accredited institution.
• Three or more years of technical teaching experience.
• Five or more years of industry related experience.
• OSHA 10 certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must possess skills and knowledge to teach theory and application in all phases of the IMC program.
• Strong hands-on technical background in the field.
• Knowledge of Safety Data Sheet (SDS) labeling and policy.
• Must be willing to remain current in the instructional field and maintain personal certifications and program accreditation(s).
• Ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook and Teams) and other basic computer software needed for the teaching profession.
• Must possess the communication skills necessary to be an effective teacher and interact with high school and adults.
• Must show evidence of good character, organizational skills, and mature attitude.
• Ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

Physical Qualifications

• Walking, bending, sitting, and squatting in order to demonstrate skills on campus equipment. 
• Able to use body members (arms, hands, fingers), tools, or special devices to work, move, guide, or place objects.
• Communicating for extended periods while lecturing.
• Sitting at a computer for extended periods to enter data.
• Requires concentrated mental and visual attention, i.e., see at close range.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and to move about the teaching area to demonstrate and perform all occupational duties.

SALARY: This is an exempt position.  Salary commensurate with qualifications, education, experience and in accordance with the guidelines established by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
