Job Description Summary

The Certified Nursing Apprentice reports to the Workforce Development Instructor. The Nursing assistant apprentice will receive training in basic nursing care through classroom lectures, simulated lab care, and hands-on clinical experience at MUSC.  After successful completion of a minimum of 100 hours of course training, the candidate will be eligible to sit for the certification in the states of South Carolina. This apprenticeship requires a total of 2000 hours of work commitment. An effective Certified Nursing Apprentice should have patience, empathy and intuition to serve their patients best. They also need good communication and organizational skills to interact with their Manager and Charge Nurse and communicate their issues to these Care Team Members.

Job summary: The Certified Nursing Apprentice reports to the Workforce Development Instructor. Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. Must not be a certified nursing assistant currently.

Responsibilities:

• Successfully complete all classroom work, maintaining grade average of 80
• Competent of performing 22 skills listed in Credentia for certification, such as: hand hygiene,

Obtaining and documentation of vital signs, ambulation with gait belt, transfer to wheelchair with gait blet, bed bath, assisting to dress, denture and mouth care, assisting with feeding, and passive range of motion of extremities

            Successful completion of Credentia written exam

            After instruction, the Certified Nursing apprentice will continue to work on assigned floor, under the      direct supervision of the Registered Nurse and Nurse Manager, for a total of 2000 hours to complete commitment
