Job Description
This role will directly support WD’s Litigation Team. This role requires a combination of legal knowledge, administrative skills, interpersonal skills and excellent writing and communication abilities. Candidate will have strong technical acumen, the ability to manage a prioritize a volume of tasks and duties, and strong facility for detail with an elevated level of organization, and experience with diverse types of litigation, including but not limited to patent, trade secret, class action, commercial and employment litigation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Issuing legal holds and managing internal legal hold processes
- Performing and coordinating various discovery tasks, including collection, maintenance, review and production of hard copy and electronic documents
- Tracking litigation holds, data collection and data production
- Using and maintaining e-Discovery tools for legal holds and other discovery tasks
- Working with IT and outside vendors to assist with document collection, support and troubleshoot e-Discovery tools, and maintain the litigation department webpage and shared directories
- Reviewing, redacting, and preparing documents for production and for exporting to outside counsel
- Working with multiple internal groups, including other teams in Litigation, Finance, HR, IT, Engineering and Sales to support litigation needs
- Maintaining, updating, and organizing internal case files, case calendars, and list of active matters
- Coordinating with outside counsel and paralegals on active litigation matters
- Assisting with responses to discovery requests and subpoenas
- Drafting correspondence
- Reviewing and approving retention periods for organization documents
- Reviewing and proofreading drafts, including pleadings, correspondence and agreements
- Performing various other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education and Experience Profile
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent
- At least one to three years of prior experience managing complex litigation at a law firm or corporation
Skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills
- History of demonstrating initiative, attention to detail, organization, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- Understanding of court rules, procedures, and discovery procedures
- Previous experience managing and coordinating corporate e-discovery, including issuing and managing legal holds
- Previous experience or proficiency with electronic discovery tools (such as Relativity) for document collection, document review, and issuing litigation holds
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency using Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word) and litigation support databases
- Notary public certification or willingness to obtain one preferred
- History of demonstrating good judgment, integrity, and professionalism
- Willingness to travel
