About the role

This position is responsible for enhancing the effectiveness of CHS’s clinical staff scheduling system, UKG Advanced Scheduler, and ensuring that ROI objectives are met. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of nursing workflows, staff scheduling, and the ability to analyze large datasets. 

As part of the Financial Operations team, this position will be highly autonomous and work closely with multiple leadership groups across the enterprise, including Hospital CNOs, Hospital Nursing Directors, the Corporate Nursing Operations Team, and Corporate Finance Leaders.  This candidate must have experience in communicating with hospital executives and influencing executive decision makers. 

The ideal candidate for this position will have experience as a Nursing Manager, Charge Nurse, or House Supervisor. 

This position is responsible for meeting certain ROI metrics related to staffing efficiency.

This position may manage direct reports.  

Optimize Clinical Staffing Schedules:

  • Create and implement a framework of scheduling best practices to be used across the enterprise.
  • Serve as the Subject Matter Expert regarding staff scheduling practices.
  • Drive utilization of the Scheduling System across the enterprise to ensure staff schedules are entered timely and that staff are scheduled to their FTE commitment.
  • Ensure the Scheduling System is utilized to its utmost capability, such as using modules like Employee Self Scheduling.
  • Generate favorable returns on certain ROI metrics, such as Incremental Overtime, Schedule Commitment, Scheduled Overtime, PRN Utilization, etc.

Data-Driven Decision Making:

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret staffing data to identify trends and areas for improvement in scheduling processes.
  • Provide regular reports and insights on staffing levels, efficiency, and compliance with labor regulations to Financial Operations Leadership.
  • Optimize workforce efficiency by proactively monitoring overtime trends, implementing cost-effective strategies, and maximizing the utilization of clinical staff. 

Compliance and Regulatory Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with legal and organizational policies regarding nurse working hours, breaks, and labor regulations.
  • Have knowledge of state regulations regarding scheduling practices and nurse ratios.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Gather and analyze optimization requests  and data from stakeholders to identify opportunities for improving scheduling efficiency and workforce utilization.
  • Prioritize recommend software enhancements or process changes to improve the efficiency and user experience of the scheduling system.
  • Deliver education and training for new facility leaders, along with ongoing reinforcement as necessary. 

Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of the nursing process and clinical nursing practices.
  • Strong understanding of nursing staff needs, shift requirements, and healthcare operations.
  • Proficiency in using nursing staffing software and scheduling systems.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with UKG Pro WFM Advanced & Basic scheduling functions

Work Experience

  • 3-5 Years Minimum of Nursing Leadership
  • 1-2 years experience working on staffing optimization

Education/License and Certifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (required)
  • RN- Registered Nurse-State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure (required) 
  • BLS- Basic Life Support (required)
