HVAC / Plumbing Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant

Company: Hartwig Mechanical

Location: Mokena, IL (in person M-F 7am-4pm Fridays off at 2:30pm)

Type: Full time permanent employment.

Pay: up to $70K per hour (DOE)

Key Responsibilities

• Complete Journal entries, Assist with month-end and year-end financial reporting
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and integrity
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
• Support job cost tracking and project-based accounting
• Assist with payroll review and related reconciliations
• Monitor cash flow and support treasury functions
• Prepare sales tax filings and assist with compliance reporting
• Support external audits and provide documentation as requested
• Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiency

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Associates degree finance, or related field
• 2+ years of accounting experience (construction or mechanical industry experience preferred)
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Previous experience in accounting software such as QuickBooks. 
• Previous AR / AP Payroll experience. 

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with job cost accounting
• Familiarity with construction accounting software (QuickBooks, Viewpoint Spectrum, or similar ERP systems) willing to train the right candidate.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities
