Salary: $50,000-$63,000 

Position Summary:

The Staff Consultant I provides financial reporting support services to the Department of the Navy (DON). Specifically: 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support financial statement (FS) review (Statement of Budgetary Resources, Balance Sheet, Statement of Changes in Net Position etc.) and FS line-item variance analysis and historical comparison
  • Facilitate auditor PBC requests related to client financial reporting duties, processes, procedures etc.
  • Coordinate across multiple internal and external teams to enhance recommendations and analysis, as necessary
  • Maintain and apply foundational Federal accounting knowledge to client specific challenges
  • Participate in client and engagement team interactions in a professional manner including properly conveying information gathered from the client to the engagement team
  • Participate in team problem solving efforts and offer ideas to solve client issues
  • Conduct relevant research, data analysis, and create reports
  • Develop solutions to client problems through application of methods and tools; validate solutions to subject matter experts
  • Review processes, identify deficiencies, and design work tools to bridge control gaps through data analytics and/orbusiness process improvements
  • Support audit activities, such as developing/updating process documentation, Standard Operating Procedures, anddeveloping/implementing corrective action plans to address findings
  • Collaborate with team to communicate, develop, and demonstrate best practices for financial management
  • Research and respond to Customer and Management inquiries related to pending or processed accounting transactions
  • Support other audit efforts as needed
  • Ability to do client travel as needed

Education & Experience Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited United States college or university in a field of study relevant to his/her professional role

System Experience:

  • Experience with MS Office Suite - Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Outlook, and Excel

Experience:

  • Active Secret DoD Security Clearance (preferred, not required) Candidate must be eligible to receive Secret level clearance. 
  • Familiarity with Department of Navy processes and procedures preferred
