The Role and the Team

We are now seeking a highly motivated Sr Systems Administrator in our Sales Engineering Tools & Infrastructure (SETI) team. As a Sr Systems Administrator in this team, you'll take an active role in designing compute infrastructure and creating tools that support pre-sales activities such as demonstrations, proof of concepts (POC), customer reports, or other tools as needed.

The Sales Engineering Tools & Infrastructure team are highly valued business partners to the Global Sales Engineering organization and play a critical role in providing tools, infrastructure, and live environments for the Sales Engineers to do their job. 

The environment includes globally distributed public and private cloud data canters with Linux and Windows servers. These environments provide the necessary computing resources for Sales Engineers and other internal stakeholders to do product demonstrations or hands-on labs. The bulk of our workloads run in AWS and our own internal deployment of OpenStack.

You will be part of a small, globally distributed team that provides swift response to the technical computing needs of your internal customers – primarily Sales Engineers. You will collaborate with your team members to build, buy, or utilize appropriate resources in support of the ever-changing, growing Proofpoint product portfolio. The activities of the team require a wide array of skills areas, including systems administration, development, and cloud computing. We balance the collective skill sets of the team so some members may be experts at development while others are experts at systems management or operations. We will look for candidates that bring expertise in at least one of these areas with willingness to learn and cross-train in the others for a “devops” role.

Some examples are:

• Build and manage the infrastructure to deliver high-volume, compelling Proofpoint on-demand product demonstrations that address today’s most pressing cyber threats.
• Internally deploy complex people-centric solutions encompassing the entire Proofpoint portfolio, becoming an expert in Proofpoint products. These would be internally deployed specifically to support demonstration use-cases that showcase the power of Proofpoint solutions.
• Internal development (coding) of solutions to support these environments. Typical languages would be Python or Golang.

Job Requirements

• Hands-on experience with systems administration of Linux and Windows servers and TCP/IP Networks
• Excellent knowledge of public cloud environments such as AWS, Azure, or other public cloud offerings
• Knowledgeable in automation scripting in any mainstream language (bash, python, Golang, React.js, etc)
• Knowledgeable of IT management processes for maintenance, availability, security, governance, Active Directory, etc.
• Bachelor’s or advanced degree in a relevant field, or equivalent experience

Plusses but not required

• Experience in any of the following specific areas would be a plus but not required:

-AWS EC2 or other AWS offerings or OpenStack knowledge

-Proofpoint products

-SMTP and email security

-Ansible or other automation/orchestration tools

-Single sign-on (SSO) vendors such as Okta

-Containers & Kubernetes

-Modern development paradigms such as Agile and CI/CD

-Data warehousing and reporting tools

-Previously supported a pre-sales competitive lab, technical marketing role, training lab

-Previously held a pre-sales SE or pre-sales operations role
