Your Specific Responsibilities:
Assess health needs of students through analysis of student health records and examination of students.
Assist in the mass screening procedures and make referrals for failures.
Record student data per electronic health record and Florida Shots Registry.
Provide case management to students
Make appropriate referrals.
Assist the school personnel in meeting the enrollment and immunization requirements according to FL Statutes.
Write the mandated health care plan and emergency action plan for the medically complex children that require nursing services in the school setting.
Utilize student EMR to document per school health guidelines.
Provide instruction and training to school personnel and students, including emergency management plans, medication administration, diabetic management, vision, and hearing screenings.
Maintain confidentiality of client interactions and services according to HIPAA and FERPA privacy policies.
Employee will be operating a personal or state vehicle to service clients at multiple schools within the Nassau County area
Provide program oversight to ensure all requirements are met for the School Health program mandated by the FL Statutes.
Provide leadership, direction, guidance, and oversight to school personnel in assigned schools
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of nursing and public health principles, practices, and techniques
- Knowledge of patient confidentiality laws
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective verbal and written communication and ability to apply them
- Knowledge of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation usage
- Skill in use of a personal computer and use of computer programs such as Microsoft Office 365
- Ability to lift and carry up to 35 pounds as needed
- Ability to prioritize individual workload, prepare reports and maintain records
- Ability to review data for accuracy and completeness
- Ability to perform procedures common for nurses
- Ability to recognize areas of own practice that need improvement
- Ability to drive for meetings, school visits, audits, and trainings
- Ability to assess clients and make sound nursing judgements independently
- Ability to safely administer immunizations within scope of practice
- Ability to work with people of different races, language, culture, or socioeconomic status
- Ability to adapt to necessary changes in duties, duty station or work hours
- Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with others to maintain an effective working relationship
- Ability to manage diverse situations
- Ability to educate peers in the theory and practice of their position
- Ability to teach student and school personnel on specific health issues, promotion of wellness, maintenance and prevention of illnesses.
Qualifications:
Minimum:
- Valid Driver’s License
- Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from an accredited educational institution
- Valid Registered Professional Nurse License in accordance with Florida Statute 464
- Must be able to bend, squat, or stand for prolonged time, and lift items up to 50 pounds
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a registered nurse
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an accredited educational institution.
- Experience working in a school health program
- Experience working with medically complex children/patients
- Case management experience
- Bilingual
