Job Purpose

The Sr. Manager Human Resources in Ithaca, New York will make a profound impact on a location with deep history and roots in Ithaca, New Yor and for BorgWarner. As the founding location of Morse Systems, the Ithaca campus is undergoing a transformation that will enable the next century of mobility solutions. Human Resources is a critical function to drive this transformation and shape the culture for our dynamic business.

This position oversees all HR activities in the location, serving as the key business partner to the Plant Manager and the leadership team. As a member of the leadership team, you will have the responsibility to influence, define, and implement effective people strategies that will serve the short and long-term goals of the organization. The Sr. Manager Human Resources is responsible for overseeing labor relations across two unionized manufacturing facilities and managing all aspects of human resources at the Ithaca location. This position is dedicated to promoting positive employee relations, high quality customer service and fostering teamwork in a professional work environment. There is a primary and strong focus on talent selection, people development, organizational structure, processes, and culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages HR activities of the Ithaca plant and supports the Ithaca Technical Center. Provides HR support to multiple global functions, including Product Management, Advanced Engineering, and IT.

  • Leads the HR staff, including driving their individual development, goals and results, performance management, etc.

  • Oversees labor relations, workers comp, employee health and wellness, employee benefits and hourly payroll administration.

  • Develops and implements a comprehensive labor strategy that fully supports the business strategy across multiple plants; serves as lead negotiator in contract negotiations.

  • Provides counsel to management on the implementation and interpretation of the CBA; ensures consistent administration and guides management in the resolution of employee disputes, grievances, and policy infractions.

  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with people at all levels of the organization. Promotes positive employee relations.

  • Works with Global Comp and Benefits Manager to develop a health/safety strategy to improve employee well-being and reduce absenteeism costs.

  • Develops a strategic Communication Strategy that supports the business objectives and provides for open, two-way communication across all functions and levels.

  • Champions change and manages culture to ensure a global learning organization is in place; provides leadership that fosters teamwork, cooperation and empowerment, and of continued growth and development.

  • Represents Ithaca HR on the Morse Global HR Council.

  • Drives BorgWarner HR tools, processes and systems across campus and ensures that they are effectively communicated and utilized.

  • Establishes policies, practices and systems that are aligned with business strategy and focuses on continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related discipline required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in HR, including labor relations, HR management, HR supervisor, with increasing responsibility.

  • Preferred experience includes working in an automotive environment supporting an engineering function and 1-3 years supervisory experience.

  • Demonstrated ability in a broad range of Human Resources functions, such as recruiting, performance management, employee relations, etc.
