The Role
VergeSense is seeking a Director of Hardware who will lead all hardware development at VergeSense. As the Director of Hardware, you will work closely with leadership, product management, and our customers to determine customer needs, develop requirements, and ultimately detailed hardware designs. You will oversee a team of electrical engineers internally and multiple external design partners. Your contributions will be crucial in advancing VergeSense’s expansion into product lines and markets. Reporting to the VP of Connected Devices the Director of Hardware will thrive in a high-growth, fluid, and metrics-oriented environment, with a deep passion for delivering value to customers.
What You'll Do:•Is responsible for leading the design and validation of VergeSense’s current and next-generation hardware products. Manage, lead, and mentor a team of electrical engineers providing technical guidance, evaluation, and facilitating career growth. •Own all aspects of EE hardware design including circuit/board design & validation as well as all usual integration challenges of ESD, EMC, and antenna performance. As a player-coach contribute technically such as driving component selection, researching new technologies, leading design reviews, etc.•Partner with product management and leadership to identify and translate VergeSense’s customer’s needs into product requirements and rigorous hardware design specifications. •Closely engage 3rd party development partners and suppliers to achieve the highest levels of product performance and quality. Align all parties with clear requirements and timelines.•Drive product development partnership strategy - determining what is best developed in-house vs. via a partnership (direct contractor, JDM, etc). •Collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams (program management, firmware, mechanical, operations, etc) to ensure coordinated development and delivery. Define, lead, and champion a consistent and deterministic hardware development process that has clear phase gates, established success criteria, and defined roles & responsibilities.
Qualifications:•B.S. or M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering•10+ years’ experience in electronics development across full product life cycles - concept to production to release of products with one or more of the following areas: complex consumer products, cameras, wireless connectivity (WiFi, •Bluetooth, 802.15.4, Cellular), or low power/battery powered design.•Experience as a technical lead designing hardware systems/products that have been deployed to customers at scale and supported.•Minimum of 3-5 years experience managing an electrical engineering systems team.•Experience in JDM (shared design) and CM (fully internally designed) engagements.•Familiar with Product Life Cycle stages and supply chain management process from concept to mass production (MP). manufacturing•Familiar with using PDM and PLM systems for the development life cycle on a day-to-day basis.•High level of technical writing proficiency (specs, test plans, reports, white papers, etc.).
