Staff Nurse – RN – Behavioral Health Inpatient– Nichols Cottage – Nights
In this role you will be working in a 17-bed general acute psychiatric inpatient unit, serving child & adolescents with various types of psychiatric, behavioral and adjustment problems that affect their family, community and school life. Our purpose is to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for our patients to work on psychiatric, behavioral and adjustment issues. Our duty is to help patients effectively communicate their issues and concerns in a socially acceptable and productive way. Services include structured therapeutic milieu, medication management, family and group therapy, on unit classroom and community-based resource support.
Comprehensive, Family-Centered Care
Treatment begins with a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment to understand the factors leading to hospitalization. Our multidisciplinary team includes child psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, activity therapists, and educators who work collaboratively to ensure safety, stabilize symptoms, and develop an individualized treatment and discharge plan.
Key features of care include:
- Daily psychiatric evaluation and medication management
- Evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Family therapy, psychoeducation, and safety planning
- Coordination of outpatient services and referrals for post-discharge care
- Strong collaboration with families throughout the hospitalization
Conditions We Treat
Our inpatient teams care for children and adolescents with a wide range of psychiatric conditions, including:
- Anxiety and depressive disorders
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Disruptive Behavior Disorders
- Psychosis and related disorders
- Neurodivergent Disorders (ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder)
This is a full-time (40hrs) night shift (3/12 hrs and an additional 8hrs (biweekly), including rotating weekend (Saturday & Sunday) coverage at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital / Westchester Behavioral Health Center
Preferred Criteria
At least one year of RN experience and/or capstone or a senior clinical rotation with a preceptor
Nursing Certification/s
Required Criteria
Bachelor’s degree in nursing
Current New York State RN license
BCLS certification
Knowledge of nursing process: social, behavioral, biological and physical science
Knowledge of current health care environment
Knowledge of customer service principles
Knowledge of effective interpersonal communication skills
Knowledge of use of computer applications
Ability to analyze patient care data to deliver and evaluate care
