At Ensemble, we understand that financial experiences are critical to patient experience, with an industry survey revealing that 86% of patients choose to return to their doctor based on their financial interactions. As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) you will work to ensure production reliability, observability, and performance across our services and systems. As the SRE Lead, you will lead a cross-functional SRE team, proactively collaborating with other teams to build, monitor, and optimize cloud infrastructure, while ensuring that reliability standards are met. Your leadership will drive continuous improvement in system performance, disaster recovery readiness, and platform scalability. Your work will enhance the financial experiences of millions while enabling our partners to focus on providing quality care.

Building on your expertise in product teams’ systems/operations, cloud infrastructure (Azure), build and release engineering, software development and stress/load testing you will lead a team to make sure our services are available, cost optimized and fit for purpose early in the development lifecycle. The SRE Lead will also work alongside product, data, integration and cloud engineering teams to ensure technical solutions are aligned to architectural principles, that deliver value to our customers as well as ensuring consistent monitoring, logging and alerting. The SRE Lead is responsible for building capability and maturing operational ways of working across multiple cross-function delivery teams, with a focus on engineering excellence and a high-performance culture.

Essential Job Functions

  • Lead the SRE team in building and maintaining resilient and scalable cloud infrastructure on Azure, adhering to high standards of uptime, performance, and reliability.
  • Design and implement comprehensive observability systems, including monitoring and alerting, ensuring 100% coverage of critical metrics.  Defining “what good looks like” for implementing observability.
  • Collaborate with partner teams (product, data engineering, IT operations) to integrate reliability and monitoring practices across the entire development lifecycle.
  • Define and enforce standards for service level indicators (SLIs), service level objectives (SLOs), and service level agreements (SLAs) for all services.
  • Proactively identify and address reliability risks before they impact production, including leading performance testing and disaster recovery drills.
  • Oversee incident management processes, including root cause analysis, post-mortems, and ensuring implementation of action items to prevent recurrence.
  • Drive the development and maintenance of reusable platform capabilities for engineering enablement, including network optimization, multi-region support, and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Provide technical mentorship to the SRE team and ensure continuous improvement in production reliability and observability.
  • Collaborate with senior management on regular reporting of system reliability and incident response outcomes.
