Commodity Buyer

Location: North America (Toronto, Canada or Las Vegas, NV, USA)

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Commodity Buyer to join the team in North America. This role will support the team in assuring supplier products meet ADL production delivery and quality requirements whilst achieving set cost targets. This position reports to the Head of North American Procurement, based in Brampton, Ontario.

Your Dream Role

  • We’re need a Commodity Buyer to support various projects and hold responsibility for timely quote completions, initially primarily focusing on EV E500 Platform sourcing work.
  • Your sourcing work will also target Buy America requirements, cost reduction initiatives through localized/globalized supply and Product Improvements.
  • Simply put, you will find and motivate the best suppliers in the world to partner with us.
  • Designing and implementing Request for Quotations (RQF’s), tenders and auctions as appropriate.
  • Developing risk management strategies for targeted supplier and commodities.
  • Review North American Bill of Material’s (BOM)’s for supplier and cost accuracy in conjunction with “Buy America” requirements.
  • Build strong, strategic partnerships with our suppliers to ensure the most cost-effective solution without compromising on quality.
  • Identify value improvement opportunities and deliver target cost reductions.
  • Use your solid commercial acumen to negotiate commercial and contractual terms with our suppliers.
  • Ensure effective management of assigned supplier performance.
  • Completion and management of price change and supplier set up forms.
  • Support the reconciliation and escalation of invoice price queries.
  • Work in compliance with the Alexander Dennis global commodity strategy.

What you will bring:

  • A Procurement expert with thorough knowledge of all aspects of commodity management – including sourcing, commercial negotiation, supplier management and global sourcing.
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in a commodity management role within the Bus, Automotive or Aerospace industry.
  • A strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and Materials MRP/ERP Systems is essential for this role.
  • Excellent commercial and business acumen as you will regularly negotiate with our suppliers.
  • Relationship building will come easily to you - across all levels of seniority, internally and externally.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
