For consumers around the world, savory foods rhyme with comfort foods, but demand for healthier, yet still comforting, options continues to rise. Constant innovation in savory taste makes meeting the demands of today possible. While there have been dramatic improvements in convenience foods over the past three to four decades, consumers have high expectations when it comes to taste and authenticity. Health and wellness trends in the savory category are motivated by a need for healthier options that are plant-based and/or lower in salt, fat and sugar. While these are now expected by consumers, there also remains an expectation for great taste.

 

Reporting to the Group Leader, Prepared Foods, you will manage flavor application process and provide complex technical expertise to guide operational excellence and develop strong cooperation with multiple customers, to support our goals.  This position is considered onsite while not traveling, and can be based in Cincinnati, Ohio, Cranbury New Jersey, or Elgin, Illinois.

 

• Flavor Application and Creation:  Execute daily brief-related tasks and manage the flavor selection, evaluation and application development and leading customer visits and product development and product presentations at the customer site. Lead evaluations of flavors in food applications for briefs, research projects and portfolio evaluations. Select optimal flavors for projects according to specified requirements (i.e. customer, regulatory, legislation, costs) and proactively take responsibility to suggest updates using flavors with high performance in common applications. Identify appropriate flavor delivery systems and technologies for customer projects in multiple applications.

 

• Knowledge Sharing and Mentoring: Serve as technical expert and advisor to marketing, sales, flavor creation, and customers for multiple applications. Establish and maintain effective relationships with multiple customers; able to gain their trust and respect. Participate as a local champion for new technologies. Coach, train, and motivate technicians, technologists and scientists. You will recommend appropriate lab/pilot plant equipment needed for capital project investments.

 

• Project Management: Lead large development projects including the largest customer briefs and technical development projects in selected applications areas. Lead customer projects and and be considered to be a leader in customer relationship skills in a specific applications area. Use technical problem solving skills in multiple applications areas. Prepare/present, technical presentations.

 

You?

• Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology.  Culinary helpful.
• 7+ years of experience in a food applications lab, production, or related area
• Experience in product development Savory (Sauces/Soups/Dressings/Snacks
• Experience in product/industry commercialization
