What You Will Contribute to OHM Advisors
As a highly talented GIS Technician Lead, you will be faced with challenging GIS projects in the fields of Engineering, Planning, Architecture, and Water Resources. The individual must be able to demonstrate established knowledge in field data collection, GIS principles, utility locating, and geospatial data management.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate daily activities for field staff, ensuring safety protocols and production targets are met.
- Utilize high precision GNSS receivers paired with Esri Inc. mobile mapping applications.
- Complete underground utility investigations, data collection, and processing using Pipe and Cable Utility Locators and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR).
- Prepare and maintain field equipment daily, ensuring it is properly functioning, calibrated, cleaned, and fully charged for field use.
- Immediately notify your Supervisor and team members of any equipment issues, malfunctions, or safety concerns encountered on site.
- Accurately record and communicate field measurements, observations, and conditions.
- Maintain thorough field notes, manage multiple site activities, and problem-solve on the spot.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, developing, implementing, and documenting field workflows.
- Work collaboratively with GIS professionals, engineers, and other team members to support successful project delivery.
- Assist Project Managers in proposal development, managing project budgets, and ensuring overall project success.
- Attend industry training and conferences.
- Represent the company positively in all interactions with clients, contractors, and the public, maintaining professionalism on-site.
- Be prepared to travel overnight occasionally for remote project assignments, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
Requirements
- Certificate or Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field is desired but not required.
- 5+ years of hands-on field experience in utility locating or mapping is preferred, including assisting with data collection, operating locating and GPS/GNSS equipment, and leading a team.
- Demonstrated knowledge using Esri Mobile Mapping Applications (Field Maps and Survey123) is required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of GPS/GNSS technology.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with strong leadership and collaboration skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel).
- A current, valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
Physical Requirements: This role is primarily outdoors and will require working in varying weather and site conditions. Tasks involve driving, lifting, carrying, reaching, bending, kneeling, crawling, walking, sitting, and standing.
