Senior Scientific Operations Leader

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the Regional Director and will work closely with the Avantor’s Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location: Tarrytown, NY

Shift: Monday - Friday (First shift)

Annual Salary Range: $115,000 - $120,000 + Annual 5% ICP Bonus

What we’re looking for 

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry) with a minimum of [7-9] years of industry or academic experience. 

• Masters w/ 4-6 years of relevant experience.

• PhD w/ 2-3 years of relevant experience.

• Scientific Expertise: Extensive experience in experimental design, data interpretation, and a broad range of laboratory techniques and instrumentation. Strong understanding of GxP standards and laboratory health and safety protocols.

• Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and inspire cross-functional teams. Skilled in fostering a culture of scientific excellence and continuous improvement.

• Operational Excellence: Background in service roles within facility management and scientific services. Proficient in managing outsourced service solutions including inventory, shipping/receiving, chemical tracking, and lab support.

• Strategic Thinking: Adept at aligning scientific goals with business objectives. Experienced in identifying growth opportunities and driving service innovation in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments.

• Communication & Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Effective at partnering with internal teams, external vendors, and stakeholders in matrixed environments.

• Technical Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office 365, CRM systems, and smart mobile technologies. Strong planning, organizational, and analytical capabilities.

• Resilience & Agility: Highly adaptable, detail-oriented, and proactive. Excels at managing multiple priorities, solving problems efficiently, and maintaining focus on long-term goals.

Avantor’s Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

• Leading a team of Avantor associates, managing workload priorities to meet customer/organizational requirements

• Responsible for the day-to-day performance and delivery of the team in line with contractual agreements and Service Level Agreements

• Advanced and daily planning of effective deployment of your team’s resources to ensure task fulfillment and enable job enrichment (steady growth of your team’s expertise and skills)

• To act as the main contact for provision of Campus Services, dealing with customer (house owner/tenants) enquiries and service issues to ensure a professional level of service is provided.

• Propose and design sustainable services and workflows across the lab footprint.

• Support and coordinate as needed, examples include My Green Labs accreditation and best practices.

• Work as part of the Campus Services team, providing a multiskilled resou
