About the Position
Join our team and play a vital role in keeping the Sarasota County Fire Department’s technology systems running smoothly and efficiently. This position provides technical support, maintenance, and coordination for a wide range of mission-critical equipment and systems that help ensure our first responders have the tools they need to serve our community.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support and coordinate the installation, maintenance, and repair of radios, mobile routers, intercoms, Knox Medvault, cellular phones, tablets, and computers used throughout the fire department.
Support and maintain fire station alerting systems, ensuring timely repairs and reliable operation.
Assist in developing and executing preventative maintenance plans and schedules for all fire department technology systems.
Help administer mobile device management for tablets, Knox systems, and key card access systems.
Contribute to the development of technical and operational procedures, policies, and performance benchmarks, while conducting quality assurance on technology used by the department.
Coordinate both short- and long-term lifecycle planning to maintain system readiness, improve performance, and align with emerging technology trends.
Assist with inventory tracking and management of technology equipment and consumables.
Collaborate with other Emergency Services IT professionals on department-wide projects as needed.
About the Schedule
Work Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours per week.
Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 08:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m.
This position is required to serve occasional On-Call rotations.
As a reminder, all county employees are considered essential and must be prepared to protect and support the community and its citizens. Each employee, without exception, will have a duty assignment and be required to work during a disaster or declared emergency.
About You
To be considered for this role, you must have the following:
Minimum of a 2-year degree with 2 years of related professional experience in emergency vehicle technology systems, IT technical support or related role.
OR: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Computer Science, Information Systems, Public Administration, Management, Business, Engineering, Communications, Project Management, or other relevant field with some related work experience.
OR: At the discretion of management, experience may substitute for formal education requirements.
Valid Florida driver's license by date of hire.
The ideal candidate has the following knowledge, skills, and/or abilities:

2(+) years of related professional experience, including hands-on use of applicable software and technology tools.
Extensive, verifiable experience with 800 MHz radio systems, information technology networks, and related infrastructure.
Proven experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting emergency vehicle communications, networking, and lighting systems.
