   Job Description

Title:                      Lead School Age Childcare Provider (Kids Club)

Report to:           Early Childhood Supervisor

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways under State of Michigan licensing guidelines:

  • Pathway 1: Completed a minimum of 60 semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university, with at least 12 semester hours in Child Development, Child Psychology, or Early Childhood Education, AND have a minimum of 1,920 hours of documented experience working with children.
  • Pathway 2: Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED), AND a minimum of 480 hours of documented experience working with children.
  • Pathway 3: Hold a current Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, completed not less than 12 semester hours in Child Development, Child Psychology, or Early Childhood Education at an accredited college or university, AND a minimum of 480 hours of documented experience working with children.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must hold and maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Job Goal:

To establish an enriching, safe, and fulfilling atmosphere for students under the guidance of the School Age Childcare Manager, fostering a positive environment that supports child development and academic success.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

  1. Activity Planning: Plan, prepare, and implement age-appropriate, engaging activities for students in an out-of-school learning environment that directly reflects the interests of the students in attendance.
  2. Program Delivery: Develop and carry out daily activities and schedules under the supervision of a Childcare Manager  in accordance with the Dearborn Public Schools (DPS) philosophy.
  3. On-Site Supervision: Supervise Childcare Providers and assistant staff assigned to your site, delegating daily tasks appropriately under the guidance of the Childcare Manager 
  4. Administrative Duties: Compile, record, and maintain daily student attendance records, keep student files organized, and collect fees as directed by the Early Childhood Office.
  5. Parent Communication: Maintain up-to-date, professional parent communication boards and site bulletin boards with current program schedules, menus, and announcements.
  6. Student Supervision: Actively supervise students in all daily activities; assist with clothing, snacks, hygiene, and safe transitions when necessary.
  7. Safety Sweeps: Perform daily inspections of the physical classroom setup and outdoor play areas for safety hazards; promptly report any building maintenance issues to the school engineer and program supervisor.
  8. Incident Reporting: Promptly document and report accidents, physical injuries, or significant behavioral issues to the Multi-Site Manager and the Early Childhood Supervisor using the proper incident report forms.
  9. Physical Development: Plan and lead a balanced variety of daily recreation activities targeting both gross (large) and fine (small) motor skill development.
  10. Academic Support: Encourage homework completion and provide supportive, patient academic assistance to students during designated homework blocks.
  11. Professionalism: Cultivate positive, respectful, and open relationships with parents regarding their child's progress and program updates.
  12. Professional Development: Complete a minimum of 16 clock hours of approved professional development and training annually, as mandated by state licensing.
  13. Licensing Compliance: Adhere strictly to all State of Michigan Child Care Licensing Rules and regulations at the program site.
  14. Other Duties: Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the School Age Childcare Manager or the Early Childhood Programs Supervisor.
