Summary

The Leader Communications inspires, develops and directs a team of communications professionals who partner with various business units to enhance communication within the business and to inform and educate audiences in support of organizational objectives and strategies.
Ensures that the team develops and delivers communications products that serve to keep employees connected to each other and to issues facing their business and tells the story of APS and its people.
Key focus areas include creative information delivery, shaping and supporting the APS Promise/Palo Verde Principles, leader education/support and employee education/morale.
Ensures that communications programs directly support the company's goals in reputation, employee experience, safety, regulatory, customer experience, sustainability/environmental stewardship and corporate culture.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Communications, or related field from an accredited college or university PLUS 5 years progressively responsible experience in communications or creative management and content development, consultation, or creative project management.
  • In lieu of Bachelor's Degree, combination of college coursework and experience in communications equaling 9 years required.

 

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications

  • Possess excellent skills in communications and creative strategy, client consultation, employee relations, and verbal and written communication.
  • A fundamental understanding of the electric utility industry, including generation and delivery operations.
  • Prior supervisory/management experience.
  • Leadership style of culture/people first

Major Accountabilities

  • Manages day-to-day operation of a communications team, ensuring the development of quality communications products and execution of smart, creative strategies that inform, engage and educate employees.
  • Partners with business units to enhance communication within their organization, align communications to a set of strategic desired outcomes, reinforce corporate culture and elevate the employee experience.
  • Provides advice and counsel to company leaders regarding internal communications and initiatives including management and articulation of policy on employee, retiree, operational and other issues that have potential to become part of the internal and/or public arenas.
  • Uses strong consulting skills and relationships to lead team activities to assist management and other clients in achieving individual and collective business goals, while maintaining balance of those goals with business needs.
  • Manages the production of communication vehicles, including content on the company intranet as well as online and print publications, to inform and educate employees, retirees and community about the company's business goals, performance and issues.
  • Originates, implements and supports ideas and initiatives that enhance employee awareness of their role in key business objectives including safety, regulatory, sustainability/environmental performance, customer experience, cost management, etc.
  • Leverages quantitative data and qualitative feedback to establish and track key metrics and to improve communications products and services for internal customers.
