STIPEND FOR LICENSE. This position will be paid an additional monthly stipend of $500 for a current Master or Journeyman Electrical, Plumbing license or HVAC Class A or B license. The license must be issued by the State of Texas and maintained in a current status.

Purpose

The Technical Trades Crew Leader assists with the oversight of maintenance activities by coordinating staff, executing skilled repair work, maintaining accurate inventory controls, conducting facility inspections, and upholding safety and performance standards to ensure the efficient operation of residence hall facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the supervisor by providing daily staff assignments, relaying instructions, and supporting training and mentoring efforts. Conduct assessments of staff work performance, assist staff with completing work orders, and maintain daily communication to keep the supervisor informed. Provide ongoing feedback to the supervisor regarding staff performance.

  • Regularly complete work orders involving electrical, HVAC, plumbing, kitchen equipment repairs, painting, drywall, and carpentry. Perform and/or oversee repairs, routine maintenance, and general care of motorized equipment. Troubleshoot, identify, and diagnose system or equipment malfunctions, and perform or coordinate necessary repairs with other trades as needed.

  • Ensure that inventory is properly checked out and that accurate inventory counts are maintained. Keep precise records of time and materials used for each work order. Review inventory paperwork submitted by staff to verify that all materials are accounted for, and return any unused materials to inventory. Assist with adding attic stock into the inventory system. Perform spot checks to verify inventory accuracy and take the lead in auditing, monitoring inventory levels, and managing reorder points.

  • Assess the condition of student rooms and maintain a spreadsheet documenting the condition of each space. Conduct inspections to identify work required by staff and perform follow-up inspections after the work is completed. Record any unresolved deficiencies as part of the room’s condition history. When requested, evaluate work performed by outside vendors or contractors.

  • Analyze computer‑generated work orders and prioritize repairs for routine maintenance. Motivate staff and ensure they meet performance expectations and quality standards. Assist workers in resolving job‑site issues and provide guidance as needed. Inspect completed work to ensure it meets specifications and established standards. Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety procedures.

  • Respond to emergencies and provide leadership at job sites by directing skilled workers and helpers in resolving problems. Operate a UT vehicle to travel to work sites, transport equipment and supplies, and pick up materials or equipment off-site as needed. Actively participate in maintaining safety both on the job and in the shop, including conducting safety training sessions. Train staff on new equipment and promote proper lockout/tagout procedures.

  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Able to communicate effectively with supervisors, staff, and student residents. Capable of giving and receiving direction. Collaborates effectively with a team.

  • Promote professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training. Other duties as assigned.
