As part of a hardworking team of diverse engineers, you will tackle existing material problems for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team's impact on all aspects of New Shepard. You will review production drawings for large complex assemblies, develop processes, select materials, help implement a New Shepard Parts, Materials and Processes Plan and define design requirements. We work closely with quality, design, structures, thermal, integration and manufacturing to optimize designs and processes. Your broad welding and metallic experience will be impactful to the team as we refine processes and engineering designs. The New Shepard team is headquartered in Kent, WA.

Responsibilities:

• Lead cross company welding working group in the definition, communication, and interpretation of standards and best practices—including requirements, analysis/modeling/test techniques for FSW and GTAW. 
• Lead development of a training curriculum supporting FSW and GTAW designers and operators.
• Provide non-advocate review of welding designs and qualification procedures using advanced technical judgment. 
• Provide technical mentorship for FSW and GTA design and operation team leads and welders. 

Qualifications:

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in Aerospace, Welding, Material Science, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering or related field.
• 8+ Years of demonstrated M&P or Welding Engineering experience on a production flight or space program
• Extensive experience with AWS D17.1 and D17.3
• Shown experience crafting and implementing test plans for analysis and qualification of components or materials such as aluminums, nickel alloys, titanium, stainless steel and other exotic alloys.
• Demonstrated experience developing new aerospace processes and refining existing ones
• In-depth knowledge of aerospace-grade materials characterization and NDI techniques
• Knowledge of industry standards for material data analysis
• Experience organizing and managing materials and process-related data in a company accessible database
• Excellent attention to detail and task ownership, someone who demonstrates pride in all work and willingness to perform low-level tasks when needed.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle small and large projects with a diversity of internal and external customers.
• Strong written and personal digital literacy.
• Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion 
• Knowledgeable in Aluminum, Titanium, corrosion, Friction Stir Welding, fusion welding or metallic materials.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Desired:

• Certified Weld Inspector, extensive NDI process knowledge
• Experience using 2219, 2XXX, 6XXX, and 8XXX series aluminums
• Experience qualifying fusion welded and friction stir welded structures
• Broad materials & processes support for metallic (e.g. forging, casting, forming, extrusion, plating, coating, brazing, anodization, passivation) hardware.
