At Empower a Sr Software Developer plays an instrumental role in delivering technology solutions, working both independently and collaboratively across multiple teams. This role is instrumental in developing high quality software that conforms to approved design patterns and aligns with Architecture goals and objectives.

Sr Software Developers are responsible for the ongoing support of complex applications, including new feature work, improvements on existing code, maintaining systems excellence, and active participation in designing and deployment of production deliverables.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

As a server side engineer you will work on many initiatives, integrations, innovations, while always trying to scale it more, improve performance and keep the system secure. Design, implement, deploy, and support new web-based applications and web services using server technologies stacks that include Java, MySQL/Oracle SQL Developer and AWS services. Define and implement API endpoints for exposing and managing financial accounts, payments, Billing/ Invoices, Recoveries, Revenue Share, Commissions, SAP integration and Fee Disclosures. Execute end-to-end software development and deployment (CI/CD) in an agile context. Define and develop cloud-native distributed systems and container orchestration platforms using micro service and serverless architectures. Design and support technical solutions that directly support Empower business operations and the millions of Empower customers through performance, scalability, security, and quality. Propose new and innovative solutions to meet the fast-changing business environment. Deliver value through a strong collaborative approach spanning multiple geographically dispersed teams. Adopt and contribute to best practices, standards & guidance, then subsequently provide coaching to technology team members. Participate in agile ceremonies and occasionally lead technical team.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

6+ years of professional software engineering experience with standard server-side software technologies, including:  Java, JUnit, JSUnit , MySQL, Spring, Hibernate, Maven, Git etc. Experience with AWS cloud computing infrastructure and APIs is a big plus. Solid practitioner’s knowledge of best practices for secure application development, including OWASP. Experience in deployment of scalable web systems with architectural requirements for high availability, high throughput, low response time, etc. Practical experience with Agile software development and test-driven development. Exposure to EJB’s, REST, and Web Services (SOAP) / SOA and Experience with Application Servers such as Oracle Weblogic Experience with UI development (React, JQuery, Javascript, CSS3). Exposure to production support. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

WHAT WILL SET YOU APART

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a related field of study Experience with AWS services including, but not limited to EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, Kinesis, SNS/SQS, Lambdas, DynamoDB, RDS, ElastiCache and database schema design. Knowledgeable in modern integration methods (API Gateway/Web Services, Messaging & RESTful architectures). Experience with serverless applications through integrating Lambda functions and event sources, and Microservices. Experience with DevOps processes and tools.
