About this opportunity:
Coordinates, trains, monitors, and constantly evaluates the daily functionalized, double-entry accounting functions for a group of assigned local units with each unit having multiple sets of books based on the programs unique to each unit i.e. Thrift Stores, CSRC, Women’s Auxiliary, Home League and Emergency Food & Service Program (EFSP); oversees the daily accounting transactions and routine reporting performed by local accounting staff (bookkeepers, accounting clerks and Corps Officers) in order to ensure continued compliance with accounting standards and policy and to ensure that the Commanding Officer can be constantly aware of the financial health of the unit. Interprets, and ensures the integrity of the chart of accounts, journals, monthly and fiscal closing statements, bank accounts, general ledger, asset management and depreciation, etc. Trains local accounting staff and provides daily assistance as needed in order to ensure the proper accounting methods and standards are maintained. Participates in the local accounting work as needed in order to ensure accounting transactions and reporting remains up-to-date at all times. Travels on-site to provide training, audit work and assist the accounting staff, Corps Officer, and/or Advisory Boards in understanding the financial condition of the local unit. Serves as liaison and technical support between the assigned local units and Divisional Headquarters.
What we are looking for in you:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, AND
• four years progressively responsible experience performing double-entry computerized accounting work with Great Plains accounting experience preferred, OR
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance and work performance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to travel throughout the division in order to provide on-site assistance. Ability to keypunch information into a computer. Ability to perform routine and complex mathematical computations repeatedly, rapidly, and accurately. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a computer and 10-key calculator. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a telephone, computer, fax machine and adding machine. Ability to work well under the pressure of deadlines. Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work performance and provide recommendations for improving productivity and efficiency of work. Ability to work independently and with limited supervision with advice and assistance not always readily available. Ability to work with general policies and procedures with some latitude for interpretation. Ability to work on multiple projects effectively and efficiently at the same time without becoming frustrated or disorganized. Ability to work through a variety of conventional problems, questions and/or situations in conformance with established accounting and organizational rules, guidelines, and procedures. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like. Work involves traveling to various locations in assigned regions where there may be physical discomforts associated with travel.
