POSITION SUMMARY:

Have a passion for leveraging project management skills to drive the successful delivery of projects? As a Project Management Intern at Amtrak, you will learn the foundational principles in project management and make tangible impact on a wide range of complex, transformational projects in a real-world rail industry environment.


You will work under close supervision of a project/program manager and in collaboration with all levels of stakeholders: from department leaders, to project/program managers, business analysts, and functional leads. Individuals in this role use project project management methodologies like agile, traditional and analytical skills to support assigned projects.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

This intern position will be for the Signal Portfolio group.

  • Collect, consolidate, and cleanse project performance data from various source.
  • Support project teams with project status reporting, documentation, controls and other  processes to ensure compliance with audit requirements, department procedures and enterprise  standards.
  • Support in scheduling activities, estimating forecast vs actuals and creating new risk registers.
  • Create and maintain required documentation including project organization charts, distribution lists, project logs, project schedules, requirements documents, project budgets, and status reports.
  • Assist in development and review of project scope, schedule and budget and hence develop the project management plans.
  • Coordinate project logistics, including calendars, major events, meetings and applicable materials and equipment Reproduce and distribute project documents and reports.
  • Perform project budget tracking and reporting, project schedule monitoring and regularly updating project costs, forecasts and actuals. 
  • Develop and maintain required project management artifacts in accordance with Amtrak Project Management Standards and applicable regulations

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Transportation), Electronics & Telecommunications or Construction Management and Project Management.
  • Must have at least 3 years of academic undergraduate studies completed, Senior status or above.
  • Solid communication skills with ability to covey information to others Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint, MS Project) and Primavera P6.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Actively pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering and and Civil Engineering.

 

COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

 

Fall 2025 & Spring 2026 prgram will run from October 6, 2025 - April 24, 2026.

 

The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
