POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Generator Service Technician oversees field operations for industrial generator systems, combining advanced technical expertise with leadership responsibilities. This role is accountable for managing field service teams, coordinating complex projects, ensuring high-quality service delivery, and maintaining exceptional customer satisfaction. The Lead serves as both a hands-on technical expert and a mentor for technicians, driving operational efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead, coordinate, and manage field service teams performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of generator systems.
Act as the primary technical resource for escalated generator issues, providing advanced troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Plan, assign, and monitor daily and project-based field activities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality completion.
Conduct inspections, preventive maintenance, load bank testing, and commissioning to verify system performance and reliability.
Mentor, train, and evaluate field technicians to strengthen technical skills and team capabilities.
Serve as the primary point of contact for customers during complex projects, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and maintaining strong relationships.
Collaborate with project managers, engineering, and other internal teams to coordinate service needs, schedules, and resources.
Maintain detailed service records, work orders, and documentation, including recommendations for preventive maintenance or system improvements.
Ensure strict compliance with safety standards, electrical codes, and company policies.
Identify and implement opportunities for process, equipment, or procedural improvements to enhance operational efficiency and service quality.
Participate in on-call rotations and provide leadership during emergency service situations.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
7+ years of experience in generator service or related electrical/mechanical field, including 2+ years in a senior or lead role.
Advanced knowledge of generator systems, electrical controls, and mechanical components.
Proficient with diagnostic tools, meters, schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Strong understanding of electrical codes, OSHA/NFPA standards, and industry best practices.
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.
Relevant certifications (OSHA, NFPA, ASE, or manufacturer-specific training) preferred.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in diverse environments including outdoor, industrial, and confined spaces.
WORK EXPERIENCE
7+ years of experience in generator service or related electrical/mechanical field, including 2+ years in a senior or lead role.
EDUCATION
High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to customer sites as needed.
Relevant certifications (OSHA, NFPA, ASE, or manufacturer-specific training) preferred.
