Unit and Position Role

Unit Function

The Leadership Institute Royal Navy (LIRN) exists to enhance leadership culture and behaviours across the Whole Force through learning, education and information exploitation.  

Position Role

The LIRN Senior Rate assists the SO2 in the day-to-day management of The Institute. The Senior Rate will organise and manage LIRN events and develop, maintain and continuously improve a body of leadership knowledge, research and resources. The postholder will act as product owner for all digital content across a variety of platforms and will ensure that LIRN output is geared towards all service personnel across the Whole Force. The LIRN Senior Rate will also be an advocate for the Other Ranks’, and will ensure all products, publications and interventions are accessible and relevant to this cohort.

Responsibilities

1.    Assist in the day-to-day management of the LIRN as directed by SO2 LIRN including management of personnel, projects and initiatives.

 

2.    Assist in organisation and event management of the LIRN annual activities programme, including forums, symposiums and 1SL’s Leadership Conference.

 

3.    Act as Information Manager, leading on the development of digital resources, the LIRN DLE page, website, SharePoint and MS Teams site.

 

4.    Develop and maintain the LIRN learning account and lessons learned database for exploitation by the Whole Force.

 

5.    Manage the LIRN Communications and Engagement Plan, leading on social media and ensuring coherence with the Culture HQ and wider stakeholders.

 

6.    Act as the LIRN financial lead: tracking expenditure, ensuring compliance with MoD guidance, and drafting business cases to support LIRN output. 

 

7.    Represent the LIRN across the RN, collating feedback and delivering briefings on courses and events, with a particular focus on Other Ranks.

 

8.    Deputise for SO2 LIRN in their absence, attending meetings and briefing on LIRN output.

 

 


Local Considerations

Domestic

Dartmouth (BRNC) based with options to work from home and a variety of locations including West Battery (Portsmouth). Overseas and UK travel is expected. Minimum monthly commitment to work from West Battery and / or CTCRM. Dartmouth has SLA / SFA and medical / dental facilities.

Essential competencies  

Must be an OR7 of ANY specialisation. OR6 applicants with a recommend for the next higher rank in their most recent OJAR may be considered. 

OR8 applicants, if successful, will only be paid as and normally wear the rank of OR7.

Must be serving as a member of the Reserve Forces or have served with the Regular Forces.
