Summary

The Senior Survey Representative oversees the activities of a survey crew in providing APS land and construction surveys for transmission/distribution overhead and underground lines, customer construction projects, land acquisitions/disposals, power plants, substations, switchyards and special surveys including risk management surveys in support of APS legal department.
Performs surveys and staking of company facilities in support of APS project leaders, engineers and designers.
Produces accurate survey notes/exhibits depicting the exact location of APS facilities and their relation to private property and right of ways.

Minimum Requirements

A four-year Bachelors degree in Surveying Management or Surveying Technology from an accredited college or university plus three (3) years experience as Survey Representative/Party Chief.
In lieu of bachelors degree, a two-year Associates degree plus five (5) years experience in survey positions, of which three (3) years experience must be as Survey Representative/Party Chief; OR, high school/GED plus seven (7) years experience in survey positions, of which three (3) years experience must be as Survey Representative/Party Chief.

• Valid Arizona drivers license.
• Experience using AutoCAD software program.
• Able to hike several miles in all weather conditions carrying survey equipment and material.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualifications:

• Land Surveyor in Training (LSIT) certification.
• Knowledge of survey mathematics (e.g., algebra, geometry, trigonometry).
• Knowledge of the Public Land Survey System, and legal principles.
• Ability to interpret construction plans and legal descriptions.
• Ability to interpret and determine boundary control for field survey and easement acquisitions.
• Experience in the use of standard and robotic total stations, aerial and side profiling LIDAR equipment, high-definition scanning equipment, Trimble GPS survey equipment and Trimble office software.

Major Accountabilities

1) Oversees and supports complex projects with difficult calculations and minimal boundary control benchmarks. Interprets and advises on boundary locations through Cadastral survey techniques. Interprets and applies different coordinate systems (e.g., Local, Arizona State Plane, Universal Transverse Mercator, etc.). Leads, instructs and guides the survey crew's daily activities by overseeing crew safety, assigned vehicle and condition of equipment.

2) Resolves complex field conflicts and design errors by understanding construction and design standards for transmission and distribution lines.

3) Performs complex construction surveys with grade cuts or fills per civil engineering construction drawings.

4) Performs dynamic wire sag and attachment field surveys.

5) May perform high-definition scanning. May create accurate computer (LAS) files for Engineering programs such as PLS-CADD. May perform aerial and/or side profile LiDAR or photogrammy. May perform aerial survey by using drones if needed (requires FAA part 107A unmanned pilot's license).
