Axle is seeking a Part-Time Biomedical Engineer to join our vibrant team at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) supporting the National Institute on Aging (NIA) located in Baltimore, MD.

Position Information:
The contractor will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives.
Certifications & Licenses

Master’s degree in Engineering, Electronics or a related discipline; two (2) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a Master’s degree.

Minimum of three (3) years of experience and training in machine shop practices.

Work products and documents related to designing and fabricating commercially unavailable mechanical instruments and medical devices; fabricate special purpose devices for clinical and orally and/or in concise written reports/documents/ correspondence, research applications; manufacture and repair special parts for various types of lab equipment and for various mechanical shop equipment. - Ad-Hoc

Statement of Work Details:
- Design and fabricate commercially unavailable mechanical instruments and medical devices; fabricate special purpose devices for clinical and research applications; manufacture and repair special parts for various types of lab equipment, such as treadmills, body measurement machines, incubators, etc., and for various equipment in mechanical shop. - 1
- Fabricate and repair various equipment, requiring special skills in using but not limited to: lathes, milling machines, drill presses, band saws, sanders, grinders, as well as various power and hand tools; operate gas and electric welders, to include MIG and ARC, as well as acetylene gas welders. - 2
- Interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, and photos to fabricate, manufacture, and/or repair using various power and hand tools, and other equipment. - 3

Designs and develops biomedical equipment.

Work with staff on assignments associated with utilizing biotechnology to improve and provide healthcare systems and devices.

Coordinates the testing and analysis process.

Manage the control and accountability of clinical and other in-scope related computerized equipment.

Tests the functionality of equipment and takes accuracy, sensitivity, and selectivity measurements.
