BASIC FUNCTION

The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for organization, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of the clinical experiences for students enrolled in the respiratory therapy program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides direct clinical instruction and evaluation of students each semester.
  • Provides didactic education to students in courses identified by the Program Director based on the Clinical Director’s background and interest including labs, CPR, and ACLS training.
  • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates the instruction of clinical instructors.
  • Develops, coordinates, and evaluates the clinical instruction of students in the program on a continual basis.
  • Serves as a liaison between the college and clinical affiliates.
  • Assists in recruitment and selection of students for the program.
  • Serves as a member of the Advisory Committee for the program.
  • Prepares materials related to clinical instruction for accreditation of the program by the Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (this includes students at all sites).
  • Actively participates in teaching related activities including updating course syllabi and assisting with the modification and/or design of curriculum that meets the needs of the community of interest for qualified respiratory therapists.
  • Maintains current level of knowledge through participation in educational and in-service programs, workshops, and professional affiliations.
  • Collaborates with peers and colleagues across the department and school to promote excellence in the delivery of clinical education.
  • Serves on university wide committees as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Direct supervision is received from the Program Director of the Respiratory Therapy Program. Evaluation of teaching responsibilities will be pursuant to the faculty evaluation process as applied to other part-time faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Director of Clinical Education must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and hold such professional license or certificate as is required by the state in which they are employed. The Director of Clinical Education must possess at least a baccalaureate degree.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The Director of Clinical Education should have a minimum of four (4) years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two (2) years should have been spent in clinical respiratory care and at least two (2) years in a teaching position in an accredited respiratory care program. Formal teacher training/experience is recommended.

 

Location: Williston campus with travel to clinical agencies as assigned.
