Under the direction of the Medical Director (Psychiatrist), with dual reporting to the Vice President of MD Region, the Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, will provide mental health, substance use disorder and child psychiatric services, supervision and direction. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with the psychiatrist to provide patient assessment and diagnosis, formulate treatment plans, prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, interpret test results, provide patient education, prepare medical records and refer patients for inpatient care in accordance with statutes, regulations and protocols regulating the profession.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Engage in psychiatric care and analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.

Provide medical supervision and administrative direction to subordinate medical and support staff; develop protocols and standardized procedures.

Conduct psychiatric evaluations.

Make diagnosis and prescribe medical and rehabilitative treatment.

Supervise and direct the medical aspects of treatments.

Provide medical triage and treatment authorizations via the telephone.

Prescribes medication as part of a treatment plan and conducts regular follow ups.

Provide medical supervision to mid-level practitioners as needed.

Confer with staff and patients and their families regarding diagnosis and treatment.

Recommend hospitalization or other indicated services.

Make referrals to specialists as appropriate.

May conduct assessments.

Provides clinical assessments and crisis interventions for psychiatric emergencies.

Plan and prepare standardized procedures and protocols.

Conduct in-service training.

Assure that medical care meets quality assurance standards.
-
Assure that quality primary outpatient medical care is provided for high-risk patients at the lowest cost.

Order laboratory tests and evaluate results.
-
Assure that patients medical charts and records are accurate and meet legal and medical requirements.

May provide medical consultation to private physicians, health care professionals and community groups on public health matters.

Prepare records and reports.

Input, access and analyze data using a computer.

Attend/facilitate meetings.

Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPECTATION

Participate a physician member of a multi-disciplinary patient care team.

Complete all billable notes within 24 hours of service rendered.

Participate in peer review process as needed
