Long Description

MILITARY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

The Dominion Energy Military Fellowship Program is a corporate internship which aligns with the Department of Defense SkillBridge program.  SkillBridge authorization allows eligible servicemembers with command approval to participate in corporate internships as their place of duty up to 180 days prior to separation.  Dominion Energy Military Fellowship positions align with the company’s workforce needs and Military Fellows may be considered for full-time opportunities upon successful completion of their fellowship.

Servicemember Requirements

To enroll in a corporate internship while still on active duty, the servicemember must be able to meet eligibility compliance and receive command approval.  Once an internship offer has been extended, the servicemember may proceed in routing a completed program application for command awareness and approval.  The internship cannot commence until you are 180 days or less from your separation date (i.e., EAOS, EAS).

  • Have met all instructional criteria outlined in DODI 1322.29, and relevant Service instructions
  • Obtain command approval to participate (i.e., signature required on Intern Application)
  • Provide final notification of command approval to the Employer

Job Summary

Dominion Energy’s Alexandria, Virginia office is offering a Military Fellowship opportunity aligned with our Customer Projects Designer role. This fellowship is designed to support our long-term workforce needs by providing transitioning servicemembers with meaningful, hands-on experience that may lead to full-time employment upon separation from the military.

The fellowship duration can extend up to 180 days, based on mutual agreement between the selected servicemember and their military command.

This is a non-union position based at our Alexandria, VA office

Military service members and veterans with ranks from E4-E6, W1-W2, or O1-O3 with the appropriate equivalent combination of education and years of experience as outlined in the “Education Section” below are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • This customer-oriented role, engineers technical electric distribution solutions by applying principals to account for equipment and labor, and project manages approximately 50-100 projects from inception to completion.
  • Projects include, but are not limited to new construction, maintenance, and relocation of electric distribution facilities.
  • Communicates company policy and procedures, electric service requirements, and project schedules and status to internal and external customers.  
  • Designers represent the Company throughout the design process as the assigned point of contact for the customer.
  • Participates in the 2-year electric distribution designer training program and is evaluated through class participation, practical field experiences, and continuous advisory reviews.
  • Inspects project sites, designates facility placement, determines metering requirements, and prepares service agreements and detailed drawings utilizing Arc-FM, Auto-Cad, or other tools as appropriate.
  • Analyzes electrical load data and performs calculations to determine size and location of electric distribution facilities based on engineering standards, existing or proposed easements, Right-of-Way permits and operational needs and requirements.
  • Utilizes work management system to prepare cost estimates based on design of new construction or modification of existing facilities.
  • Coordinates installation/relocation of other utilities (i.e. cable television, phone, etc).
  • Prepares underground agreements, billing authorities, revenue calculations, negotiates and secures Right-of-Way permits, environmental permits, easement agreements and highway/railroad
