NIGHT YARD JOCKEY

The primary function of this position is to prepare trucks and trailers for loading, which includes moving trucks and trailers in and out of dock doors for loading and unloading, fueling, precooling/heating trailers and maintaining equipment.

An individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty listed below. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Works with loaders and warehouse management to move trucks and trailers from one location to another according to door assignments. 
• Checks to ensure that each truck/trailer is sealed with bulkheads and the refrigeration unit is operating correctly and running. 
• Ensures the truck or trailer is completely loaded and secured before moving from the dock area.
• Ensures truck equipment is charged.
• Arranges trucks and trailers on the yard in an orderly and efficient manner.
• Helps keep the truck yard free of debris and trash.
• Works with yard staff to fuel every piece of delivery equipment daily.
• Adheres to all safety practices and company policies and food safety principles. Immediately advise supervisor of any unsafe conditions.
• Attends all required company meetings.

• Education/Training
  • Must possess a valid Commercial Drivers’ License issued by the state of legal residence and be DOT qualified.
  • Must be able to read, write and communicate in the English language as it relates to the job and safety requirements - able to hold a conversation, to understand highway traffic signs and signals, to respond to official inquiries, and to enter information on reports and records.
  • Must have basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide)

  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, twist, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • Must be able to frequently (unassisted) lift, push, pull or move items that weigh up to 75 pounds using safe lifting practices.  When lifting more than 75 pounds, a lifting device should be used, or two or more people may assist.

• Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Must be able to work the assigned schedule including various night start times, 10+ hour shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to use, or learn to use, all equipment and tools used to perform the job.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills. <
