Job Summary:

Supervises effective and efficient integration of team and support functions for Clinical and/or Anatomic Pathology departments. Plans, coordinates, and supervises the activities of support personnel. Works with manager to support quality assurance functions and training of clerical functions for new faculty and staff.

Department Summary

Our new 110,000-square-foot diagnostic core laboratory supports the needs of Vanderbilt University Medical Center's inpatient hospitals, outpatient clinics, regional hospitals, and extramural practice customers. Located five miles north of the 21st Avenue Nashville campus, the laboratory has expanded capacity to bring more testing to Vanderbilt, deploy innovative technology, improve patient care, and enhance team collaboration. The laboratory offers an expanded test menu supporting routine and specialized testing and aims to become the preferred reference laboratory provider in the southeast region.

Key Responsibilities
• Manages clinical and/or anatomic pathology support services to ensure optimal performance of the team.
• Responsible for quality assurance functions for Clinical and/or Anatomic Path Support.
• Oversees supervisory activities of support personnel.
• Participates in the financial activities of the laboratory.

TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• Quality Assurance (Advanced): Successfully applies quality management techniques to challenging and complex situations. Uses techniques across multiple departments where business processes cross organizational lines. Demonstrates the ability to lead a group through quality management tasks resulting in measurable system, product and service improvements. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve superior results. Consistently delivers results in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others.
• Data Access and Reporting (Advanced): Demonstrates the uppermost levels of expertise in locating, organizing, interpreting and reporting data in challenging and complex situations. Expert at finding and visually documenting groups of facts not previously known. Delivers complex reports via data mining and data warehousing. Often takes a lead role in highly pressurized situations when there is a need to achieve results. Consistently delivers information in a creative and imaginative manner while setting a standard for others.
• Customer Service (Advanced): Demonstrates a high level of customer sensitivity and has shown insight into customer business issues. Demonstrates a work ethic where customers display confidence and trust in the service provided. Anticipates, plans for and meets increases in customer needs and service levels. Removes barriers and establishes procedures to improve organizational customer service activities.
• Medical Terminology & Documentation (Intermediate): Demonstrates mastery of medical terminology and documentation in practical applications of a difficult nature. Possesses sufficient knowledge, training, and experience to be capable of successfully delivering results without requiring support and instruction from others. Able to train and educate by setting the example, giving instruction, providing leadership, and generally raising the level of performance of others while on the job.
