Job Description
The Black Hills Office of Applied Research Associates, Inc. (ARA) is seeking a full-time intern to participate in a paid internship during the summer of 2024. We are looking for someone who has strong math skills, is good at analyzing numerical datasets, and has experience with Python. Other software programming skills are a plus. The successful applicant will be capable of designing and implementing metrics in Python to capture trends and compare data, creating user resources and help documents, and supporting all phases of software verification. All work will be done at the ARA office in Rapid City, SD.
Major Duties:
- Design and implement upgrades to Python-based applications that plot data and compute metrics
- Work with other members of a software maintenance team to understand project needs and goals
- Work independently with simulated data to verify software algorithms and identify trends
- Clearly communicate status and document progress
Required Skills
- Significant progress toward a bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field
- Strong analytical skills for processing and working with numerical data
- Proficiency with programming in Python
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both within a team and independently
- Selected applicant may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information, including US citizenship
Desired Experience
- Experience programming in C#, C++ or Java
- Familiarity with Web-based applications and scripting languages (e.g. HTML & JavaScript)
