Position Summary:
A Senior Metrology Technician is a precision professional, responsible for ensuring that measuring instruments and test equipment are accurate and reliable. They conduct calibrations using high-accuracy equipment such as CMMs, OGPs, Super micrometers, Contracers, etc., and analyze performance, comparing results to established standards to guarantee compliance with precision and accuracy requirements. With a deep understanding of metrology, senior technicians report on their findings, offering technical guidance and insights to maintain optimal measurement precision. Our ideal candidate has a strong understanding of metrology principles, excellent problem-solving skills, and meticulous attention to detail.

Essential Functions:

  • Calibrating and maintaining various measurements and equipment to ensure accuracy and compliance

  • Maintaining records of measurements and making necessary adjustments of repairs

  • Providing technical advice for the repair and calibration of precision measuring equipment

  • Developing inspection programs and generating data reports for inspection requests.

  • Managing and communicating team metrics to peers and management

  • Initiates Out-Of-Tolerance (OOT) reports as needed

  • Prepares certificates of calibration based on an acceptable quality level of pre-inspected gauges to approve their use in-house, or for suppliers.

  • Performs basic maintenance and repair metrology equipment

  • Conducts and documents quality assurance tests

  • Ensures that all measurements meet industry standards and regulatory compliance

  • Collaborates with Development and Quality engineers and other technical staff to identify and address measurement issues, or opportunities for improvement.

  • Trains other staff on the use of metrology equipment and interpretation of results

  • Writes and maintains related Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions and other technical documents

  • Commits continuous improvement efforts in the measurement process

  • Adheres to the letter and spirit of the company Code of Conduct, the AdvaMed Code, MedTech Code, and all other company policies.

  • Ensures Compliance with applicable governmental laws, rules, and regulations, both in the United States and internationally, by completing introductory and annual training and maintaining knowledge of compliance as it applies to your role

  • Represents the company in a professional manner and uphold the highest standards of ethical business practices and socially responsible conduct in all interactions with other employees, customers, suppliers, and other third parties

Qualifications:

  • Having a bachelor’s degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, or other related field is preferred, or a minimum of 5 years of experience in this field.
  • A strong candidate is proficient in GD&T applications, blueprint reading, shop mathematics and technology in general.
  • Possessing competent knowledge in CMM operation using PC-Dmis software is expected.
  • Knowledgeable in process improvement tools such as SPC, Kanban, PDCA, and Gemba as well as maintaining and presenting team metrics to peers and/or management.
  • Professional certifications, such as the Certified Calibration Technician (CCT) or Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) from the American Society for Quality are preferred.
  • Handling and maintaining metrology equipment, understanding measurement uncertainty, calibration procedures and quality management systems.
  • Practical experience in a laboratory environment.
