What the role is all about

Becoming a Summer Freestyle Snowboard coach with WinSport gives you the opportunity to work with eager young athletes to help them achieve their goals of getting more air, stomping bigger features, and learning more advanced tricks in the terrain park in the off-season.

 

At WinSport, we strive to support our guests in maintaining an active lifestyle by offering unique training facilities and a high standard of coaching. The Freestyle Snowboard Coach is expected to help athletes ages 8-17 years old build a freestyle training program centered around developing athleticism, confidence, respect, and self-discipline in a fun and focused environment. Athletes in Summer freestyle programs will focus on freestyle skill acquisition and maintenance, as well the development of their technical snowboarding skills to improve confidence on more challenging terrain. In this position, you will foster an environment that is positive, challenging, and safe to flourish in.

What you will be doing:

Safe

  • Be mindful of the inherent risks associated with snowboarding and conduct work and self accordingly.
  • Understand the inherent risks associated with the use of freestyle training facilities: Trampolines, Super Tramp, Airbag, and Dry Slope and conduct work and self accordingly.
  • Understand the inherent risks within the context of the terrain parks and be mindful of developing and demonstrating skills safely.
  • Make decisions that consistently put your safety, and WinSport guests’ safety first, following WinSport safety policies and procedures.
  • Safely provide lessons to all guests tailored to their skill level and goals based on training from CASI/CSIA or NCCP.
  • Ensure the Alpine Responsibility Code is covered and abided by in all lessons.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, and maintain accurate class cards, including recording each child’s secure pick-up code for safety.
  • Actively contribute to a safer workplace by identifying hazards and risks.

    • Maintain an understanding of all snowboard products to assist guests and make recommendations for future lessons. Maintain an understanding of WinSport’s Summer camps and activity offerings in order to assist guests and make recommendations for future programs.
    • Assist with program processing, and school groups before lessons take place.

      • Exhibit a passion for winter sports and for helping students develop their skills and achieve their personal goals.
      • Deliver clear and concise lesson content that is well thought-out and intentional for the guest’s needs and goals.
      • Demonstrate leadership by providing quality instruction and a positive guest experience, both on and off the hill.
      • Provide a high standard of technical knowledge in Freestyle snowboarding.
      • Understand the LTAD and Sport for Life sport development models and how they apply to the group you are coaching.
      • Utilize positive-first feedback strategies that empower guests and fellow instructors.
      • Engage in non-teaching duties including hill set-up and take-down, rental shop assistance, lesson check in, and waiver confirmation.
      • Seek and take guidance and leadership from Team Leads in instructional and group settings.

             

            Creative

            • Evaluate your athletes and administer an off-season training plan appropriate to their stage of development.
            • Communicate with team members to align programming and development of athletes.
            • Be proactive and take note of the team’s needs, and willing to complete tasks as their need arises.
            • Adjust communication and skill development strategies to appropriately fit the needs of the guest, including level, age, and interests.
            • Assist with the accommodation of guest needs in every situation possible, with a mindset focused on guest service, problem solving, and adaptability.
